Nashorn without Jupyter/Toree?

Hi all,
I would like to use eclairjs-node to plot my Spark job results but I cannot afford installing more than npm and java in my working node. I don't understand whether jupyter and apache toree are necessary for this node module and nashorn to speak one to each other or not. I see that nashorn can run without those two guys but can eclairjs connect to him without jupyter and apache toree?

Right now we use Toree to facilitate the Node to Nashorn communication as Toree/Jupyter provides us a web socket endpoint to communicate with Spark (this is similar to something like Cloudera's Livy).

We originally had Node talk directly to Java but that caused all sorts of issues around thread blocking.
