How to Install ASync on your iPhone (Physical Device)

Because the ASync app is still in development and not yet available on the Apple App Store, you will need to "sideload" the application onto your physical iPhone using a computer.

We highly recommend using AltStore. Once set up, AltStore will automatically refresh the app in the background over your home Wi-Fi, meaning the app will never expire and you won't have to plug your phone in every 7 days!

🛠️ Requirements

  • A physical iPhone and its charging cable (Lightning or USB-C).
  • A Mac or Windows computer.
  • Your Apple ID email and password (this is sent securely to Apple to generate a free developer certificate to trust the app).
  • Both your iPhone and Computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

📝 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Download the App File (.ipa)

  1. You will be provided with an app.ipa file (this is the iOS application package generated by our Codemagic build).
  2. Download and save this app.ipa file somewhere easily accessible on your computer.

2. Install AltServer on your Computer

  1. On your computer, open your web browser and go to altstore.io.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and download AltServer for macOS or Windows.
  3. Install AltServer and open the application.

Note for Windows Users: AltServer requires the non-Microsoft Store versions of iTunes and iCloud. If you don't have them, the AltStore website provides direct download links for the correct versions.

3. Install AltStore on your iPhone

  1. Plug your iPhone into your computer using your USB cable.
  2. If your iPhone asks "Trust This Computer?", tap Trust and enter your iPhone passcode.
  3. On Mac: Click the AltServer icon in your top menu bar -> click Install AltStore -> select your iPhone. On Windows: Click the diamond-shaped AltServer icon in your bottom right system tray -> click Install AltStore -> select your iPhone.
  4. Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
  5. Wait a minute or two, and the AltStore app will magically appear on your iPhone's home screen!

4. Trust your Developer Profile

Before you can open AltStore on your iPhone:

  1. Unplug your iPhone from the computer.
  2. Open your iPhone's Settings app.
  3. Go to General -> VPN & Device Management.
  4. Under the "Developer App" section, you will see your Apple ID email. Tap it.
  5. Tap Trust [Your Email] and confirm.

Important for iOS 16+ Users: You must also enable Developer Mode to run sideloaded apps: Go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Scroll to the very bottom -> Developer Mode -> Turn it ON. Your phone will restart to apply the change.

5. Install the ASync App

  1. Send the app.ipa file from your computer to your iPhone. You can do this via AirDrop (if on Mac), or by uploading it to Google Drive/iCloud Drive and downloading it via the Files app on your iPhone.
  2. Open the AltStore app on your iPhone.
  3. Tap the My Apps tab at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap the + (plus) icon in the top left corner.
  5. Browse your files and select the app.ipa file you transferred to your phone.
  6. AltStore will ask for your Apple ID one last time to sign the ASync app. Enter it.
  7. The ASync app will install and appear in your My Apps list and on your home screen!

🎉 The Magic Wi-Fi Auto-Refresh

You can now open ASync and log in.

Normally, free Apple Developer certificates expire after 7 days, which would break the app. To make sure the app never expires, simply ensure these two things:

  1. Leave AltServer running in the background on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPhone and computer to the same Wi-Fi network occasionally (for example, when you're sleeping at home).

AltStore on your phone will silently communicate with AltServer on your computer over Wi-Fi and automatically refresh the 7-day timer behind the scenes!
