Android: Stream freezes after server resolution fallback (3456x2160 -> 1920x1200)
Device
- Device: RedMagic Astra (NP05J)
- Android: Stock ROM (not rooted)
- OpenNOW: 0.8.2 (Build 37) - Google Play version
- GeForce NOW: Ultimate subscription
Summary
OpenNOW works perfectly at 2560×1600.
Any resolution above 2560×1600 causes the stream to freeze after the first rendered frame.
The issue occurs with every game launcher I tested.
Tested resolutions
Working:
Not working:
- 3200×1800 ❌
- 3200×2000 ❌
- 3456×2160 ❌
- 3840×2160 ❌
The problem happens with both:
Changing the aspect ratio does not change the behaviour.
Codecs tested
Same result.
Games tested
Steam:
GOG:
Same behaviour for both launchers.
Exact behaviour
- Launch game.
- Stream starts normally.
- Status bar initially displays the requested resolution (example: 3456×2160).
- A few seconds later the status bar immediately switches to 1920×1200.
- First video frame is displayed.
- Video freezes permanently.
- Audio starts correctly.
- I can hear the Steam Big Picture startup sound TWICE.
- Eventually the session disconnects.
Important observation
The official NVIDIA GeForce NOW Android application works correctly on the same tablet.
Only OpenNOW has this issue.
Logs
The logs show:
- WebRTC negotiation successful.
- ICE connected.
- MediaCodec initialized successfully.
- First video frame rendered.
- Requested resolution:
3456×2160
- Actual renderer resolution becomes:
1920×1200
- Video freezes immediately afterwards.
Additional notes
The issue appears to happen exactly when the stream resolution changes from the requested resolution to 1920×1200.
Since 2560×1600 works perfectly, it looks like the problem only affects resolutions above 2560×1600.
This may be related to the renderer handling a dynamic resolution change after stream startup.
If needed, I can provide complete logs and reproduce the issue consistently..

Android: Stream freezes after server resolution fallback (3456x2160 -> 1920x1200)

Summary
OpenNOW works perfectly at 2560×1600.
Any resolution above 2560×1600 causes the stream to freeze after the first rendered frame.
The issue occurs with every game launcher I tested.

Important observation
The official NVIDIA GeForce NOW Android application works correctly on the same tablet.
Only OpenNOW has this issue.

Additional notes
The issue appears to happen exactly when the stream resolution changes from the requested resolution to 1920×1200.
Since 2560×1600 works perfectly, it looks like the problem only affects resolutions above 2560×1600.
This may be related to the renderer handling a dynamic resolution change after stream startup.
