OpenTimelineIO-Plugins package for Python 3.13?

Hello,

I'm the author of a Blender add-on that is used in production by several studios and it relies on OpenTimelineIO - and more specifically on the Final Cut XML - to export and import edits from and to Blender.
Blender follows the VFX Reference Platform calendar and their next release, version 5.1 (ETA March, 17th) is then based on Python 3.13.

I'm very happy to see that OpenTimelineIO is available on 3.13, and I thank you a lot for that. I'm a bit annoyed though that the package containing the FCP XML adaptator is not provided anymore as part of the main package, but I saw some comments explaining why and I understand. That wouldn't be an issue if the package would be available, but apparently there is none available for Python 3.13.

Would it be possible to have a Python 3.13 package, please? It would really help ;)

Sorry about the lack of response.
I'm not sure I understand exactly which package you're referring to.
When I installed the opentimelineio-plugins package with a python 3.13 environment, I get the fcp_xml adapter.

Are you talking about the fcpx_xml adapter? I tried adding it in the same environment and it seems to install properly.

Thank you for your answer.

So, I'm looking for the Final Cut XML adaptator (not the FCX XML), and I need to deploy it in a Python 3.13 environment.
As far as I understood from the doc, it is now part of the OpenTimelineIO-Plugins package, right?
But when I go on PyPi, I see (from the supported programming language list on the left side of the page) that there is currently no package available for that version of Python: https://pypi.org/project/OpenTimelineIO-Plugins/

Hence my request: would it be possible to have a wheel for Python 3.13?

Side question: apparently there is also a kind of "light" package dedicated to FC XML, isn't there?

If so, I would prefer to use that light one. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to support Python 3.13 either...

Ah, OK. The doc you referred to seems to be out of date but only when it comes to removing the "fcpx_xml" and "hls" adapters form the "batteries included" section. I'll try to fix that.

The "fcp_xml" adapter is still included in the "opetimelineio-plugins" package.

On PyPI it only says versions upto 3.11, but if you look at the wheel it says "py3" so it should work on any python 3 version. We should update the metadata on the next release of the adapter itself. The same goes for the plugins wheel.

When looking at this the other day I got the "fcp_xml" adapter when installing the "opentimelineio-plugins" package in a python 3.13 environment, so I believe it should be fine.
Have you actually tried installing this in a 3.13 environment?

When you say the light one. Do you mean only installing the "fcp_xml" adapter and nothing else or are you referring to a conversation on slack where a "light" version of the "fcpx_xml" was mentioned?

If you only want the core and the single fcp adapter please try: uv pip install opentimelineio otio-fcp-adapter

Hi again.
I appreciate the explanations. I wasn't aware that python 3.13 was also covered by a wheel when it's tagged "Python 3". Good to know.
So yes, I'm more interested by a package that would only contain the FCP XML adapter, so the related package is perfect.

I modified a bit the command line you provided as an example to fit my needs and was able to install the fcp adapter. Worked like a charm! Everything is back on track now.
