Intercepting Amazon links based on referring app

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create an automation that will open all Amazon links in the Amazon native app (default behavior without URLCheck), unless the link is tapped on from Discord, in which case I want it to open in Firefox (which is not the default browser on my device, if that matters).

I wrote the following automation json and Discord does seem to work fine, but when I tap on a link anywhere else (for example from Reddit or Slickdeals apps), I get a toast at the bottom of the screen that says "Can not open the app". I've tried setting the Amazon Shopping app to automatically handle links or open them in browser. The setting doesn't seem to make any difference on the outcome. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated!

The automation looks fine. And I tested it on my device and it works with a sample link. Did you tested with different type of links? (Home page, search, product...)
I'm not sure what the issue may be.

If you disable automations and open the link, then manually choose the amazon app, does it work? In that situation, could you copy/paste the debug information (from the debug module)?

Thanks so much for the quick response! I disabled the automation and was able to choose the Amazon app or Firefox, based on my preference. Re-enabled the automation and it worked, for maybe an hour. Then I tried again just now and it's no longer working. I'm getting the same toast message as I did before. So I disabled the automation again and now I don't even have the Amazon shopping app as an option in the URLCheck, which I assume is what's causing the problem. I've tried changing the settings for the amazon app to handle links or not, and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Edit: I cleared cache on the Amazon app and then changed it to handle links and back to not handle them. It now again shows as an option. Here's the debug when it does show as an option:

Hmm, that's odd, but I do have a possible explanation (it's just a hunch, maybe it's not the issue, but let's just try).

In your settings, for the open in Firefox automation, add the amazon app referrer too:

The automations trigger always, and I haven't added an infinite loop check yet. It may be possible that you are trying to open a link that amazon rejects, and tries to open the browser instead. It opens on URLCheck, which opens amazon, and the loop repeats. Maybe the amazon app (or android itself) is detecting this infinite loop and disabling the receiver.

With that modification, if this situation happens, Firefox will open instead, breaking the loop.

(Note: you may need to wait or reinstall the amazon app if it's still disabled)

Thanks again for your help. I tried adding Amazon as the referrer, but it didn't make a difference.

I then tried to experiment and isolate the issue by uninstalling URLCheck, setting Chrome back as my default browser, and uninstalling/reinstalling Amazon. Everything works as usual (all Amazon links open in Amazon). When I set Amazon to not handle links, all links open in Chrome. But - and this is where I think things go wrong - when I set it again to handle links, it still doesn't. All links still open in Chrome.

So once Amazon is set up to not handle Amazon links, it will not, for some reason, be able to handle them again, even if the setting is changed back, until I clear data/cache for the app (or uninstall/reinstall). I think that's the same issue I'm seeing with URLCheck where Amazon is not even an option in the dropdown menu. I'm not sure if it's an operating system issue or an Amazon issue, though.
Edit: It seems that uninstalling URLCheck again allows Amazon to handle links again. So I think the trigger here is the default browser being changed.
