Tiff files do not show up in Lighttable after import

@koslowj describes in #667 that .tiff files are not showing up in Lighttable. However, the discussion in that report focuses on the presence of .ansel.files.

There seems to be a difference between opening single .tiff files directly in Darkroom and importing several .tiff files to Lighttable. The latter won't show.

Quoting of initial report

There are 255 dng-images and 30 regular tif-images in the folder. When opening this folder in the lighttable, only 255 thumbnails are displayed. When I then re-import all images, without deleting them first from the library, I see a message that 305(!) pictures have been imported, but still only the 255 thumbnails of the dng-images are displayed. Indeed, there are 20 .ansel.tif-files in the import dialogue.

When I try to re-import a single regular tif-imge, this opens up in the darkroom with a message that this picture already was in the library and it will not be re-imported. Switching to the lighttable, there are now 256 thumbnails, including the one of the tif-image I just tried to re-import. This does not work when trying to re-import more than one of the regular tif-images. And after re-importing all images again, the previous tif-thumbnail has disappeared and I'm back to 255 thumbnails.

One may wonder whether this is OS-specific and what parameter is used to display the embedded jpeg?

Under Windows tiif files generated from a Canon camera by a denoise program are imported without problem with version 2879, yet they show up as skulls in the lighttable if jpeg display is set to always, and normal otherwise.

Tiffs from that denoise program may not embed a jpeg in the file. Perhaps it would be wise to grey out jpeg preview if no embedded jpeg is present?

Also I agree with @Jiyone , this could very well be a filtering issue

If I understood @koslowj correctly this is not about thumbnails showing the image vs thumbnails showing skulls, but about the number of thumbnails represented in Lighttable.

So yes, Filters or Search could be at play here. The settings about the embedded jpeg on the other hand should not be relevant

I was replying to @sahlirc . Jpeg preview seems like a separate issue, and I suspect the cause is that these tiffs do not have an embedded jpeg, so they show as skulls.

Regarding the OP, more info is needed. This could be a filtering issue, or something else.

Yes my intervention was not about skulls vs no skulls, but to say that in two different OS I could import tiff files and display them, in support of a configuration issue in the OP's Ansel install. I have been puzzled sometimes by new installations of Ansel, because the filtering in the Lighttable was not always identical to my last setting. So this is worth testing for the OP (I would definitely turn on all filters when unexpected things happen). And for raster files coming from other programs, they may contain tags information that may interfere with previously filtered tags who knows.

From what I understand, OP imported back Ansel own sidecar TIFFs which were created empty, so there is indeed nothing to show in lighttable.

TIFF files are showing properly here.
