1. Project Overview

BloodBook is a location-based mobile and web application designed to create a dynamic, community-driven network of blood donors. Functioning as a digital directory, the app instantly connects individuals in urgent need of blood with the nearest, eligible, and available voluntary donors in real-time. By leveraging GPS technology and smart notifications, BloodBook aims to significantly reduce the critical time spent searching for a compatible donor during emergencies, turning a moment of panic into a moment of action.

2. The Problem Statement

During medical emergencies like accidents, surgeries, or for patients with chronic conditions (e.g., thalassemia), finding a matching blood donor quickly is a major challenge. Traditional methods involve:

• Manually calling friends and family.
• Reaching out to blood banks, which may have limited stock.
• Posting on social media, which is not targeted and can be slow.

These methods are time-consuming, inefficient, and often fail to reach a wide enough pool of potential donors in a specific geographical area. This delay can be the difference between life and death.

3. Proposed Solution

BloodBook provides a centralized, intelligent platform to solve this problem. It works on the principle of creating a live, searchable "book" of donors: "The right donor, at the right time, in the right place."

• Digital Donor Directory: Volunteers register to "Get Listed in the BloodBook," providing their blood type, contact details, and general availability. They can toggle their "Active Donor" status on/off.
• Smart Matching: When a request is made, the system uses GPS to instantly "Search the Book" for all registered "Active Donors" with a matching blood type within a specified radius (e.g., 5km, 10km).
• Real-Time Alerts: These nearby donors receive an immediate push notification with the patient's details, blood group required, and the location of the hospital or blood bank.
• Seamless Connection: Donors can respond directly through the app, confirming their availability, which then provides their contact information to the requester.
