the tests will almost certainly run faster in vitest vs jest, and it means the DX is better aligned with what people are used to these days (for contributors in future)

low hanging fruit but low priority - was just a thought while browsing around the codebase

@43081j are there any quality of life features of vitest that can be useful in the TypeScript codebase (we are probably going to move to TS soon-ish)?

It handles typescript and esm out of the box with no extra set up. The coverage is accurate too if you want to turn that on (as it uses V8).

Overall it'll have similar features to jest but will be faster and lighter to install
