The previous community platform tooling featured a "co-hosting" capability, which allowed virtual or in-person events hosted by one chapter to be broadcasted and shared directly with members of neighboring or geographically overlapping community groups (e.g., across the same metropolitan area or regional cluster).
Participating chapters also benefited from "community credit": more activity and diversity in topics, elevating the attractiveness of all the chapters.
Proposed feature
Introduce a Co-Hosting / Cross-Community Event Promotion mechanism on ocgroups.dev that enables event organizers to link an event to one or more neighboring or overlapping community chapters, surfacing the event across all participating groups' feeds and notification channels.
Scope and behavior
- Organizer Workflow & Selection
- Chapter Linking: During event creation or editing, chapter organizers should be presented with an option to select "Co-hosted Communities" (via a multi-select dropdown or geographic radius filter of adjacent chapters).
- Mutual Consent / Approval: To prevent unintended spamming of regional feeds, a co-hosting request should ideally require lightweight confirmation from an organizer of the target neighboring chapter (or be pre-approved if administrative sub-group hierarchies apply).
- Member Discovery & Visibility
- Feed Integration: Co-hosted events should appear naturally on the event lists, calendars, and upcoming event feeds of all participating chapters, complete with clear visual badging (e.g., "hosted by [Primary Chapter]).
- Notifications: Members of the neighboring/co-hosted chapter should receive standard event notification emails and calendar invites (based on their individual notification settings), eliminating the need for members to join multiple separate chapters just to stay informed about regional events.
