Update for NativeWind v4

Since NativeWind has finally updated to v4, it's interesting to have it in the benchmarks.

I've got it up and running yarn start-native-release-mode

If you're going to upgrade NativeWind, please also upgrade the others. We've landed a ton of performance since the last version.

Also - the tamagui compiler isn't too hard to set up and I think would put us up at the top, happy to send a PR with that. Still, I ask that you don't publish new benchmarks either way without at least upgrading things consistently to be fair.

Sure thing. Though one more thing to note: this is kind of why micro benchmarks are a bit tricky.

We optimize to even better than View + StyleSheet with the compiler because we actually optimize to a RCTView. But of course if you use more advanced styles it optimizes less.

Probably other libraries have differences like this too. There’s so many factors to this too - another example is that we use DynamicColorIOS for no-render dark/light changes.

A better bench would show micro + a screen with a mix of components that do everything from simple styles for 50% or so, and then more complex styles as well.

Plus how you abstract things. Tamagui is good with composition. You can styled(styled()) etc and it still renders one view. But we’re a bit worse if you have an intermediate functional view.

All to say it’s just complicated to get a good bench. But happy to help.

can we have v2 of nativewind in the performance test. would love to see the perfomance between v2 and v4 of nativewind
