Syntax highlighting

It's my understanding that current version of etherpad doesn't support code syntax highlighting of any sort since all plugins that historically were able to do that are now deprecated.

Is there any plan or roadmap to add such essential feature?

Currently not. It would be definetely cool but the code base especially the frontend isn't easy to understand.

@SamTV12345 May i give it a try ? is it better to implement it with a plugin or not ? maybe i should understand the plugin system first

I'm sure this already exists as a plugin. Turns out no, I'll stick it under a plugin request.. Defo don't want this in core!
