First of all, thank you for the great software. Volume² is much better than the default Windows sound management.

I would like to suggest a feature that is surprisingly missing in Windows and most simple audio utilities: Stereo Channel Swap (L/R Inversion).

Sometimes users have hardware issues, mirrored cables, or specific setups where the left and right channels are swapped. Currently, we have to use heavy tools like Equalizer APO to fix this. It would be amazing to have a simple checkbox like "Swap Channels" or "Invert L/R" in the "Audio Device" or "Balance" settings of Volume².

I believe many users would find this extremely helpful.

While adding a "Swap Channels" checkbox sounds like it should be a simple feature, there is a fundamental technical reason why it is missing from Volume² and other lightweight Windows audio utilities.
Here is a breakdown of why this is actually quite complex to implement:

The Windows Core Audio API Limits

Volume² is built in Delphi and operates using the standard Windows Core Audio API—specifically the IAudioEndpointVolume interface. This API allows the application to do things like:

• Read and change the master volume.
• Mute the device.
• Change the volume level of individual channels (which is how the Balance feature works).
  However, this API does not have access to the actual audio stream (the raw PCM audio data). Because Volume² can only tell Windows "make the left channel 50% quieter," it cannot tell Windows "take the audio data meant for the left channel and send it to the right speaker."

Why Tools Like Equalizer APO Are Required

To actually swap or reroute audio channels globally across Windows, an application must intercept and process the raw audio stream before it hits the audio drivers. This requires creating an Audio Processing Object (APO).
APOs operate at the system/driver level rather than the user level where Volume² sits. Developing an APO is a completely different beast:

• It typically needs to be written in C/C++ rather than Delphi for low-level system integration.
• It requires messing with the Windows audio pipeline, which can introduce latency or compatibility issues with certain sound cards.
• It goes against the core design philosophy of Volume², which is meant to be a lightweight, portable, user-mode overlay and controller.

Conclusion

I genuinely wish Windows offered a simple API toggle for L/R inversion that I could just hook into, but unfortunately, Microsoft hasn't built that natively into the endpoint controls.
While I won't be able to add this feature directly into Volume², I highly recommend continuing to use Equalizer APO (with the Peace GUI, if you aren't already using it) for this specific issue, as it is custom-built for exactly this kind of driver-level stream routing.
