Odd keybinding convention

Maybe there is some precedent for this elsewhere, but it seems a bit odd that opening a new regular tab is ⌘S while opening a new local shell is ⌘T? I can, of course, rebind these to the more intuitive mappings for myself. I just wanted to report it in case it was not intentional.

Also, why ⌘{ and ⌘} for left and right tab rather than say ⌘[ and ⌘]? I could not determine if that the latter already had some other use.

@gawashburn I mean most terminal’s only have the local shell, which is the ⌘t binding? Especially on macOS that is then the muscle memory I have for getting a local shell. Personally I use both ⌘t, ⌘s, and ⌘P all very frequently depending on what I am launching. The tmux control mode introduced a bit more complexity as well because you then have the need to take action on different gateways.

For left and right tab navigation, rootshell follows the platform norm used in many other apps with top tab including regular Safari and macOS Terminal.app. This is also why I chose ⌘-shift-\ for the toggle for the vertical tab view as its then right next to the keys you normally use for tab switches and where you are already used to having ⌘ and shift at the ready.

If there are other users that also feel the current defaults are backwards feel free to chime in here. If there are common alternative defaults I can also look at making those into a package that is a single option to flip.

Okay, I had not actually realized that ⌘{ and ⌘} was the default for Safari, etc. So that makes sense. Without that context it seemed like requiring the shift was superfluous.

However, that is actually why ⌘T seems more natural for a new tab, as that is what I've historically used in Firefox (Safari also uses it) and iTerm2. I suppose part of the problem is more contextual. I am mostly using Rootshell for remote connections on iOS/iPadbOS, it seems more natural that ⌘T would open the new tab panel. But if I were using it on macOS, I agree I would probably expect it to default to a local shell too. What muddies it a bit is for Rootshell, a local shell is just one option for a new tab. Anyway, it is easily configurable.
