Small lag in cell execution

A bit of nitpick as I can't even easily capture in video, but I find there is a bit of a lag to begin a cell's execution in VS Code. The little clock in the bottom left of cell seems to remain on screen for about 2 seconds before cell begins to execute

2 seconds is a huge lag. Is it install packages in that time? Is this on first run or all runs for you?

Seems like for any run (or re-run) of any cell -- not just an import cell. Packages are all installed already. Once it proceeds to actual execution, that then completes as quickly as expected

@brentgunderson have you tried the jupyter extension? how does it compare r.e. slowness?

I do indeed have the various Microsoft-bundled python extensions installed (Jupyter, pylance, etc). Interestingly, I do not seem to have same slowness on .ipynb files. Or .py files with the interactive window. Also, the slowness of course does not appear if I use the marimo web UI. I also have ruff extension installed and have these settings, I wonder if could be relevant
