DiceBear 10.6 adds three new styles, and all three look handmade: torn paper, a few drawn lines, and a small quilt. That makes 55 styles in total. Also in this release: 568 ready-made presets on the style pages, new color options for nine older styles, docs that AI assistants can read as Markdown, and weekly style rankings in the statistics.
🎨 Three new avatar styles
All three ship in
@dicebear/styles10.5.0. They are DiceBear originals under CC0 1.0, so use them wherever you want, commercial projects included, no attribution needed. None of them animates, that would not fit the look.Cutouts
Faces made of torn craft paper: a head, hair on top, and eyes, nose, and mouth cut out separately. The two eyes never match, that is intentional. Six head shapes, seven hairstyles, seven eye pairs, six noses, and seven mouths, plus brows and cheeks. The accent colors are all darker than the face colors, so the features stay visible on any head. Five color groups you can override.
Line Face
A face drawn with a few quick strokes, straight onto the background. Eight eye pairs, six noses, and eight mouths, and the mouth sits at one of three angles depending on the seed. Two color groups, background and ink, and that is the whole style.
Patchwork
A small quilt. Each avatar picks two of 18 classic quilt blocks (pinwheel, flying geese, rail fence, and so on) and repeats them diagonally, rotated by 180 degrees, so the result is always point-symmetric. All blocks sit on the same grid, so everything lines up at the seams. Three fabric colors plus the background.
🎛️ Presets on every style page
Until now, finding a good configuration meant digging through the options and trying things out. Every style page now has a Presets section: ready-made looks with a name and a short description. 568 in total, across all 55 styles.
A preset is nothing you install. It is just a bunch of regular options, so it works in every library and as query parameters in the HTTP API. Click one to see its code, or open it straight in the playground and tweak from there. Style pages show the first five, and a page like dicebear.com/styles/lorelei/presets/ has the full list.
🖋️ Recolor the linework of nine styles
Nine styles had their dark drawing color hardcoded in the artwork, and no option could touch it.
@dicebear/styles10.5.0 turns it into a color group, named after what the color does in each style:inkColorcolors the whole drawing, outlines and filled areas alike. Seven styles use it: Adventurer, Adventurer Neutral, Croodles, Croodles Neutral, Notionists, Notionists Neutral, and Open Peeps.outlineColoris just the head and ear contour, which is why Lorelei calls it that. Everything else there already had its own group.strokeColoris an actual SVG stroke. Toon Head is the only style drawn that way.default

inkColor+paperColorFive styles got more than that one group. Adventurer and Adventurer Neutral split the face into
eyes, sclera, lips, teeth, tongue, throat, uvula, andglasses, and Adventurer getsearringson top. Croodles gainedfacialHair, and Notionists gotpaperfor the body the ink sits on.Your existing avatars look exactly the same, every new group defaults to the color the artwork already used. The SVG bytes did change, though, because splitting the groups re-exported some paths. Only relevant if you cache rasters and compare bytes.
📊 Style rankings and trends
The statistics page always showed how much the API serves, but the styles themselves only showed up as percentages. Now there are real numbers: how many websites requested each style through the HTTP API in a given week.
A trending row shows which styles are gaining the most websites, the past four weeks against the four before. A style that started from zero gets a New badge instead of a meaningless percentage:
Below that, a searchable table with every style: websites per week, share, trend, and a twelve-week sparkline. Click a column to sort, click a row to jump to the style page:
The same numbers show up where you pick a style. The styles overview can sort by Most used or Trending, and every style page has its own Popularity card under Details:
Package downloads got a tab per registry: npm, Packagist, PyPI, and crates.io, all on the same week axis, so switching tabs does not change the time range.
🤖 Docs for AI assistants
Language models mostly know DiceBear as it was before version 10, and the old API versions still answer. So outdated code looks fine and quietly does the wrong thing. The docs now help out:
llms-full.txthas the full text..mdto the URL, orindex.mdto a directory URL. The style page mirrors are built straight from the style definitions, with the license, an option table, the presets, and usage snippets for all six libraries.AGENTS.md, so your assistant uses version 10 and the current option names.robots.txtpoints crawlers at the machine-readable files.🧰 Also in 10.6
notEqualTonext tocontrastTo, so tools that pick colors themselves know which groups have to differ. In all six cores: JavaScript, PHP, Python, Rust, Go, and Dart.@dicebear/styles10.5.0, so the three new styles and the new color groups work there too.npm fundprints it for core, converter, and the CLI. The package READMEs got star and license badges, built during the docs build and served from dicebear.com, so no badge service sees the IP of everyone who opens the README on npmjs.com.Everything else is in the changelog.
