Older GCC Version

Hello, I would like to setup the toolchain using GCC 13. Do you have branches with older GCC versions or would changing the version from the .gitmodules work (I'd guess not)? I saw that you have branches (for example, fix-typo and gdb-test) where the gcc version is 13, would the toolchain have the same behaviour if I would use them instead of the master branch?

For a Linux cross toolchain, the components are Binutils, GCC, glibc, Linux headers, and QEMU (for emulation).
When changing GCC, then only glibc should be affected as it is built with GCC.
However, changes typically are backward-compatible. So, I think you should give it a try.

Possible commands (untested):

git clone git@github.com:gcc-mirror/gcc.git
cd gcc
git branch gcc-13.4.0-branch
git checkout gcc-13.4.0-branch
git reset --hard origin/releases/gcc-13.4.0
cd ..

git clone https://github.com/riscv-collab/riscv-gnu-toolchain.git
cd riscv-gnu-toolchain
./configure --with-arch=rv64gc --with-abi=lp64d --enable-linux --with-sim="qemu" --prefix=install --with-gcc-src=../gcc/ 
make -j$(nproc) linux build-sim

Maybe a binary build such as xPack (bare metal only) or Embecosm (bare metal or Linux) might work for you unless you absolutely need to build your own from scratch?

There's an old tag that points to gcc 13.2.0 (if @cygdragos10 can live with that version). This worked for me:

git clone https://github.com/riscv-collab/riscv-gnu-toolchain.git
cd riscv-gnu-toolchain/
git checkout 2024.09.03 -b tmp
./configure --prefix=/opt/riscv
sudo make linux -j8
