This can save up between 10 to 15% of fuel
How does Efficient Driving have an impact on consumption?
The benefits from Efficient Driving has lower cost per trip, lower cost in vehicle maintenance and a reduction of stress while driving
- Plan your trip and leave with time
- Search for shorter routes
- Take a route with the least traffic
- If you need to take multiple trips try to do in a single trip
The greater the weight of the car the greater the fuel consumption.
Make sure you remove the unnessary things before your trip.
If you have a roof rack or cargo in the roof, consumption of fuel can increase about 20% in highways.
If you have low tire pressure your car will consume more fuel.
It is recommend that you check the air pressure atleast every 2 weeks
Is it estimated that a 5 PSI reduction from the optimum air level in tires can increase fuel consumption by 3%
A fuel filter in bad shape could increase fuel consumption by 0.5%, due to the pump making greater efforts to take fuel to the engine.
A dirty air filter could affect by 1.5% performance, since if there is not enough air available, or if it is contaminated, fuel is not fully used to 100%.
Avoid accelerating fully. Full accelerations generate excessive fuel consumption.
Use a feather foot, not a lead one!
Avoiding driving on high speed if the travelling distance is less than 100km
Dive at higher gear if possible.
For example, to drive at 70km/hr it can be done in 4th or 5th gear, choose the highest gear (5th), where you could reach higher performance.
Keeping enough distance will avoid braking and accelerating constantly.
What would be a safe distance?
If you are driving at 80 km/h you must maintain a distance of 80 meters
Refer to traffic regulations Distance from the Vehicles Ahead section for more details.
In order to reduce energy consumption, it is recommended braking in advance always when possible.
If you see a red traffic light or a Stop sign, you could start reducing your speed slowly and using the gear box.
There is a debate over braking using downshifting vs switching to neutral and breaking.
I prefer to put the car to neutral and then brake.
It is recommended to downswitch as siwtching to nuetral consumes more fuel, need more research.
Reducing speed by keeping a gear on cuts fuel injection,
Red stop lights, in general, last shorter than a minute, so, in that case, it is not cost-effective to turn off the engine.
In overtaking or emergency situations, safety must be above economy,
Attention to the surrounding: will allow you to react properly and avoid accidents. At the same time, braking with enough anticipation and the proper use of the gear box reduce fuel consumption.
Overtaking: you must be sure that you have enough distance to manoeuver. This will avoid incre- asing the vehicle’s RPM, generating excessive consumption.
Driving under stress, bad health and tiredness can increase fuel consumption
