When you have missing font weights a triangle warning icon appears and this allows you to remap the missing font weight to an available one.
However, this would actually be a more useful feature it was always available as a [remap] icon. Then If you used Regular, Medium in your selection and you need to remap that to Regular, ExtraBold - then this could be an easy way to remap it.
Since the logic already exists for the "missing" case, it would be easy just to add it a mainline feature using a "remap" or "swap" icon/button leading the current swap out pop-up.
