This page documents everything that NFSCO changes in Need for Speed: Carbon.

Important

Global Changes

  • Fixed an issue where loading an alias could crash the game on newer Windows versions.
  • Fixed an issue where the drift camera could not be selected outside of drift races.
  • Fixed an issue where the Controls screen would not show all available controls.
  • Disabled the Massive Incorporated advertising code.

Vehicle Tuning

The following changes apply to vehicle performance part tuning options.

Engine

  • Torque tuning now matches the power output of horsepower tuning.

Transmission

  • Increased the strength of acceleration tuning.

Suspension

  • Fixed an issue where the understeer and oversteer tuning effects would be swapped.
  • Increased the strength of understeer and oversteer tuning.

Nitrous

  • Fixed an issue where velocity tuning would not reduce nitrous duration.

Tires

  • Fixed an issue where grip tuning would be applied incorrectly.
  • Increased the tuning slider rows from 1 to 3.
  • Increased the strength of drift tuning.

Brakes

  • Fixed an issue where front bias tuning would be applied incorrectly.

Induction

  • Increased the strength of low RPM tuning.
  • Fixed an issue where high RPM tuning would be applied incorrectly.

AI

  • Fixed an issue where the random number generation code would generate predictable numbers.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would freeze in an infinite loop during racer AI path finding.
  • Fixed an issue where AI racers would drive too slow during races.
  • Fixed an issue where AI racers would still drive their vehicles after being busted.
  • Fixed an issue where AI racers would not use catch-up.
  • Fixed an issue where AI racers would not use shortcuts during races unless the player uses them first.
  • Fixed an issue where AI racers would gain an incorrect amount of drift race points.
  • Fixed an issue where stuck patrolling police AI would be unable to reverse to try and get unstuck.

Cheats

  • Added new cheat codes for unlocking everything, Career money, and increased difficulty.

Career

  • The amount of money earned from crew challenges and defense races now scales with the amount of Career bosses defeated.
  • Added over 30 new races to Career.
  • Added wanderer racers to Career. These are lone wolves who do not associate with any crew and drive uniquely customized vehicles.
  • Added unique star colors for all crews on the World Map screen.
  • Changed the unlock order of all vehicles, performance parts, and customization parts.
  • Increased the maximum Career heat level from 5 to 10.
  • Progressively increased the checkpoint time and drift score requirements throughout the Career.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would automatically save during the introduction.
  • Fixed an issue where speed traps would not render during speed trap boss races.

Challenge Series

  • Added new, uniquely customized vehicles to all Challenge Series tracks.
  • Adjusted the difficulty of all Challenge Series events to match the new vehicle performance.

Quick Race

  • Added over 100 new tracks to Quick Race.
  • Added all Challenge Series-exclusive tracks to Quick Race.
  • Added all checkpoint-exclusive tracks as sprint tracks to Quick Race.
  • Added a unique territory camouflage texture for Quick Race.
  • Added 200 unique Quick Race AI racer names.

Police Pursuits

The following changes apply to all heat levels in Career and Challenge Series.

  • Added an additional police unit to all heat levels.
  • Decreased the amount of heat level reduction from customizing a vehicle.
  • Increased the fines for all infraction types.
  • Progressively decreased the amount of cost to state required to dispatch a patrol vehicle.
  • Progressively decreased the amount of time required for back-up requests.
  • Progressively increased the chance for road blocks.
  • Progressively increased the chance for spike strips in road blocks.
  • Progressively increased the duration and tightness of the 'box-in' formation.
  • Progressively increased the police AI reaction time.
  • The front and rear police AI line of sight distance is now constant on all heat levels.
  • The maximum time to enter a hiding spot is now constant on all heat levels.
  • The minimum speed at which the busted meter begins filling is now constant on all heat levels.

Customization

  • Added the Front Decal customization option to the Aftermarket screen.
  • Added the Rear Decal customization option to the Aftermarket screen.
  • Added the License Plate customization option to the Aftermarket screen. License plates are unlocked automatically throughout the game.
  • Fixed an issue where the Ride Height customization option would apply an extreme amount of camber to the vehicle.

Rendering

  • Implemented Direct3D 9Ex. This can be enabled by appending the --with-direct3d-9ex command-line parameter when starting the game.
  • Implemented immersive dark mode for the game window.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would only support 5 resolutions.
  • Fixed an issue where vehicle shadows would render incorrectly if more than 1 vehicle is present in-game.

Interface

  • Added new interface textures for all UI elements.
  • Added button textures for Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
  • Added accurate and consistent track previews for all tracks.
