Reconsider final actions for program termination

👀 The function “tidy_up” is registered for execution on program termination.
I got the impression that some functions are called here which should be usually performed by a regular program termination.

The tidy_up function is called via atexit(), which means that it is called for a regular program termination or for an error termination. So I see no problem.
