If the push comes from an external force and that force isn’t strong enough to make the rest of the ecosystem follow, then you’re safe, as long as the FreeType developers still want to maintain it as a C project. But if the initiative comes from the FreeType developers themselves (like what happened with LibRsvg), then you’re cooked. Remember the fork of the last C version of LibRsvg on GitHub? It’s dead. No one continued developing it. P.S. I know you’ll keep using the last C version of FreeType even after it stops being maintained, just like you’re doing with the Oniguruma library. |

I know some people are writing a FreeType replacement in Rust. Maybe sometime in the future this Rust library will be pushed to fully replace FreeType. Look at how they are pushing
uutils! I think they will offer C interface so you can use it from C/C++. What will you do?All reactions
