I needed to run this through a GPIO expander (the MCP23017 in my case). However, neither the library nor busdevice allows passing anything except digitalio.DisplayInOut. These changes allow passing a DigitalInOut created by the MCP230XX library as well as controlling it just using 3 GPIO. I created an example to show usage.
