Discussion

  • The existing implementation of screen traces was based on the 60 FPS screen rate
  • Newer devices can have a variable frame rate
  • This solution uses CADisplayLink.targetTimestamp to calculate a dynamic frame rate

Testing

  • This change still needs to be tested on ProMotion devices
  • Unit tests cover changes - but don't include the logic for targetTimestamp

API Changes

  • Verify (and update) that apps would need to add this Info.plist key to track frame rates on ProMotion devices
