rFAMS Input Webinar Suggestions #75

Open

Description

@jcdoll79

AFS hosted an input webinar where developers presented the rFAMS package while it was being developed. The suggestions below were made by attendees and should be considered for integration into rFAMS.

General

  • Vignettes

rFAMS

  • Are there opportunities to use Beverton-Holt, Ricker, etc., recruitment into the process so that recruitment becomes contingent upon adults actually modeled into the population as numbers decline? I'm interested in using the DPM to test extirpation, and it seems like large year classes can pop up even when there are very few adults with the original FAMS.
  • Will alternative growth models be considered in addition to von b?
  • Do the models account for catch and release mortality for fish that have to be released under various length limit simulations? Could consider further partitioning mortality rates.
  • Can we define variable exploitation rates for different length groups of fish? (The bag limit question again, say for modeling a 1-over reg).
  • Can we add a conversion factor where length and weights can be entered in mm/g and in/lbs? Managers vs metric for manuscripts.

Shiny app

  • How sensitive are the slider bars on the Shiny app side? Would it be easier to use an input box rather than a slider bar when trying to narrow down to a specific input value?
  • We have some regulations that are a "1 over X inches" but you can harvest several within a slot. Will the Shiny app be able to handle this, or would it be better/easier to manipulate the code to accommodate for this instead?
