Release list
v1.0.0
First release.
Tray switch for the Dell BIOS fan override (FanCtrlOvrd): forced full speed, or the firmware curve. There is no "off" state and no percentage — the BIOS exposes only these two.
Download FanSwitch-v1.0.0.zip, extract, run FanSwitch.exe, accept the UAC prompt. Right-click the tray icon and choose Start with Windows to persist it.
Requirements
- Dell business system (OptiPlex, Latitude, Precision) whose BIOS exposes
FanCtrlOvrd— this varies by model - Dell Command | Configure installed (provides
cctk.exe) - Administrator rights;
cctkneeds elevation even to read a setting - No BIOS setup password
- Dell Command | Monitor is optional, and only powers the RPM and temperature readout
Check support with:
& "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Command Configure\X86_64\cctk.exe" --FanCtrlOvrdIf the .exe will not start
The binary is unsigned. On managed machines an EDR or application-control policy may block it with Access denied and no visible error. Use the PowerShell build included in the zip (powershell/install.ps1), which runs under Microsoft-signed powershell.exe, or ask IT to allow the binary by hash.
SmartScreen will also warn on first run: More info → Run anyway.
Notes
- The
.exein this release was compiled and verified to build cleanly, but it could not be executed on the development machine because of the application-control policy described above. The PowerShell build is the one that has been exercised end to end. - Writes are verified against
cctkoutput rather than assumed to succeed, so a refusal (BIOS password, unsupported model) is reported instead of silently showing a state that never changed.
