feat: let a coding agent make a demo video through OpenScreen's MCP tools - #1119
Conversation
…frames on stdio An agent that starts `openscreen mcp` gets the in-app server's document tools, run by the same executor, and the media tools around them: listSources, startRecording, stopRecording, exportVideo, getFrames. stopRecording turns the take into a project laid out as the editor lays out a fresh recording (one clip, a zoom on each recorded click) and returns a checkpoint of it, so every edit after it goes through the DSL. No port and no token: the client started the process. The CLI's runners now go through one host that routes their IPC by window, so the MCP server can run any number of them; the one-shot commands use it too. On Windows, Electron's main process gets a stdin that ends at once, so stdin is read from descriptor 0: this also makes `record`'s stdin "stop" work there.
…r and its zooms Playwright or CDP clicks never move the screen pointer, so such a take had no cursor and no zoom. The agent logs each action with Date.now() and its position in the window; setPointerTrack turns that log into the pointer a real mouse would have left (at rest, then an eased glide onto each action), writes it as the take's cursor sidecar and adds a zoom on each click, keeping clear of the zooms already there.
…le video skills/openscreen-demo/SKILL.md teaches an agent the whole job through the MCP tools: storyboard, record, check the take, edit with the DSL, export, review, then a post for X that it publishes only after the user's explicit yes. Installable with npx skills add getopenscreen/openscreen --skill openscreen-demo. ai-editing.md gains the stdio setup, and cli.md the mcp command, in every locale. The translated ai-editing pages also get the MCP client section they never had, which the new one builds on.

…d runners From review: a runner whose renderer crashes or whose page fails to load now ends its run with that error (the one-shot CLI reports it the same way), and the MCP server closes each runner's hidden window once it has the result. Also refuses a second export while one runs, says where the take is when it cannot become a project, draws a frame at once when the video is already there, closes the server on any end of stdin, and keeps mcp out of the docs' sentence about --json.

Serialize
setPointerTrackindependently of the document-tool queue.
createToolRunnerserializes only calls routed throughrunTool, butsetPointerTrackis registered directly and usesdeps.documents. Its sidecar write therefore bypasses that queue. When
saveProjectIfUnchangedrejects the document update, the document remains unchanged while the sidecar has already changed. A rollback is required, but an unlocked rollback could restore stale bytes over a sidecar written by a concurrent successful pointer update.Use an operation-scoped lock or queue for the shared sidecar. Hold it from before
getProjectForUpdatethrough the sidecar snapshot, write, suggestion collection, versioned save, and conflict rollback. Restore the snapshot while the lock is held when the save returnsnull.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

…ne at a time From review: two stopRecording calls arriving together could both save the same take as a project; the take is now claimed before the first await, and held until it is a project so no new take or export starts meanwhile. Concurrent setPointerTrack calls each read, rewrote and saved the same project; they now run one after the other.
What
A coding agent can now make a demo video on its own, through OpenScreen's MCP tools: "Make a demo video of this feature with OpenScreen" → storyboard, recording, edit with the DSL, export, review, then a post drafted for X that it publishes only after the user's yes.
openscreen mcp: the MCP server on stdio, started by the agent itself (claude mcp add openscreen -- <Openscreen executable> mcp). No port, no token, no setting.createToolRunner,runDocumentTool).listSources,startRecording,stopRecording,exportVideo,getFrames(frames come back as images in the result).stopRecordingturns the take into a project laid out as the editor lays out a fresh recording (one clip, a zoom on each recorded click) and returns a checkpoint of it. Every edit after that goes through the DSL.setPointerTrack: a take driven by Playwright or CDP never moves the screen pointer, so it had no cursor and no zoom. The agent hands over its own log of actions; OpenScreen turns it into the pointer a real mouse would have left, and zooms on its clicks.openscreen-demoskill (skills/openscreen-demo/SKILL.md,npx skills add getopenscreen/openscreen --skill openscreen-demo): the whole job, built on those tools.ai-editing.mdandcli.mdin every locale, README,llms.txt.Supporting changes
electron/cli/runnerHost.ts): the hidden record/export/sources/captions runners now route their IPC by window, so one process can run any number of them. The one-shot commands use it too.process.stdinthat ends at once there. stdin is read from descriptor 0 instead (electron/cli/stdin.ts), which also makesrecord's documented stdinstopwork on Windows.zoom-suggestions.tsimportszoomMath/constantsrelatively: the main process now plans zooms with it, and its build does not resolve@/.Trust model
The stdio server may record and edit without the in-app Project edits switch: the client launched the process with the user's rights, exactly as it would run
