Outcome

Markover > About Markover opens an intentional native macOS About panel that identifies the installed application and release without sending users into the review UI or a browser.

The application menu already contains Electron's standard about role. This issue owns configuring and verifying the panel, not adding a second About command or building a custom window.

Acceptance criteria

  • The existing Markover > About Markover command opens the native macOS About panel.
  • The panel shows the Markover name, application icon, semantic application version, build/version identity needed to distinguish installed releases, and current copyright/credit information.
  • Values come from authoritative application/package metadata rather than duplicated handwritten release strings.
  • Development and packaged builds remain distinguishable where their established identity contract requires it.
  • Keyboard access, VoiceOver naming, focus return, and standard macOS menu behavior are verified.
  • Automated coverage protects the application-menu role and the options passed to Electron; packaged-app validation confirms the rendered panel.

  • No update checker, license browser, diagnostics collector, support workflow, or privacy-document navigation.

    Implementation: PR #104 / 1b98416 merged to main as e6b7d22. It retains Electron and macOS native About behavior, the existing menu role, and the bundle/application icon. It uses the addressed application name; semantic package version; seven-character Git commit with -dirty for modified development builds; Copyright © 2026 Michael Johnston (lastobelus); and credits generated as Created by Michael Johnston (lastobelus). Free and open-source software under the MIT License. Automated coverage protects the native role, configured options, authoritative staged metadata, canonical/development identity, and package contract.

    Validation: npm run ci:local passed 418 tests plus the live Electron smoke. The hardened ad-hoc-signed arm64 package and packaged smoke passed. The rendered packaged panel showed Markover-63 Version 0.1.3 (46e17d9-dirty), the bundle icon, exact credits, and exact copyright; the macOS accessibility tree exposed the icon, identity, credits, copyright, and close control; the menu exposed native orderFrontStandardAboutPanel: behavior; closing the panel returned focus to Open Markdown. All four required GitHub CI jobs passed on PR #104, including Apple Silicon and Intel packaged smoke.

    Coordination: #16 and draft PR #51 own public launch copy/assets and do not own About-panel identity. #15 explicitly excludes #63 implementation and can consume its focused accessibility evidence; #63 did not alter Review-menu or deletion behavior. #91 can consume the completed clean-profile acceptance evidence. Issue #63 is ready to close as completed and its announcement-readiness project item is ready for Done.

    Coordination note from #15 PR1: I’m resuming review deletion/cleanup from current main (46e17d9) and will touch src/main.ts plus src/app-menu.ts to add the native Review menu and guarded deletion/cleanup handlers. #15 retains ownership of Review-menu/deletion behavior; #63 retains ownership of About metadata/panel behavior. Please avoid Review-menu changes in #63. Whichever PR lands second should rebase and preserve both independently owned additions.
