Summary

This keeps the existing PR branch, reconciles the full Rust 1.95–1.97 audit from PR #5, and completes two independent clause-level source audits:

  • Microsoft Pragmatic Rust Guidelines v2026.6: every published guideline page, include-bearing index, context page, and nested normative reference
  • Zero To Production In Rust: every table-of-contents unit and unlisted continuation page in the audited 433-page PDF
  • Rust 1.95–1.97: current stable language, library, Cargo, lint, FFI, and code-generation behavior backed by focused Rust 1.97.1 tests

The corpus now contains 343 rules across 27 categories. The final adversarial pass corrected unsafe/FFI contracts, async cancellation and bounded-admission semantics, ownership claims, numeric and float behavior, validated types, release profiles, LTO/PGO/codegen guidance, hashing security, type layout, and CI/example admission. Performance guidance is measurement-driven rather than based on universal speed or allocation claims.

Provider-, framework-, and 2022-version-specific tutorial recipes are explicitly dispositioned rather than imported as timeless guidance.

Coverage evidence

Microsoft Pragmatic Rust Guidelines

  • source commit: bbf7b03f3a51548f187888fb8c516e8118ebb1c2
  • 89 / 89 M-* pages individually dispositioned
  • 13 include-bearing indexes cover every guideline exactly once
  • navigation/context pages content-pinned
  • nested-link inventory and known upstream broken references validated

Zero To Production In Rust

  • PDF SHA-256: 5de8b3ef43e1175f18579130c9bef9ef492f63c527deb5ac65a9a1bb6320f75e
  • 433 physical pages, including unlisted continuations 272 and 390
  • 431 / 431 unique TOC units independently dispositioned
  • final states: 307 covered, 35 outdated, 81 project-specific, 8 rejected; zero unresolved missing/partial units
  • TOC, mapping, extraction, source-page, and full-ledger digests fail closed in validation
  • purchased PDF is not redistributed

Rust 1.95–1.97 reconciliation

  • PR feat: audit and refresh for Rust 1.95 through 1.97 #5 commit ce04df8988405e6b4ee25be3d32db1e31c1f6d83 is the second parent of the reconciliation commit
  • focused tests cover atomic update/try_update, cfg_select!, if-let guards, ordering consistency, fallible bool/non-zero conversions, bit helpers, and mutable collection insertion
  • examples and rules were re-reviewed for Rust 2024 unsafe blocks, symbol attributes, ABI types, target configuration, and stable/nightly boundaries

Originality

  • independent 10-word prose scans found zero source/rule overlaps for both source audits
  • rule text and examples are original synthesis

Verification

bash checks/check.sh at 791a2478cbf00f28d943bd18a2dbcbb5b008574b:

  • OK: 343 rules valid; index lists all 343 of them.
  • OK: index up to date (343 rules, 27 categories)
  • 11 source-guidance behavior tests passed, including a bounded real socket round-trip
  • 7 Rust 1.95–1.97 behavior tests passed
  • generated 874 examples from 1,239 Rust blocks
  • OK: exact compile-suspect baseline parity (94 reviewed)
  • All checks passed.

Additional checks passed:

  • rustfmt --check --edition 2024 checks/tests/source_guidance.rs checks/tests/release_195_197.rs
  • workflow YAML and both coverage JSON documents parsed successfully
  • Python validation/generator scripts compile successfully
  • git diff --check for both merge parents
  • CI actions are pinned to reviewed commit digests

GitHub check runs may remain absent pending maintainer approval for the first-time-contributor workflow.

Closes #3

Jason Lee added 9 commits August 12, 2026 16:37
Add 14 original rules covering the load-bearing gaps versus
microsoft/rust-guidelines v2026.6, plus a tightly scoped ffi-
category. Existing rule bodies are unchanged except bidirectional
See Also links. Index regenerated; release version left at 1.5.1.
Add the sixteen load-bearing rules pass 1 skipped, and revise
proj-prelude-module and proj-pub-use-reexport so the corpus no
longer contradicts the Microsoft book on preludes and re-exports.
Pin the compile-check toolchain and CI to 1.97.1, add
lint-warnings-deny-config and num-bit-width for the 1.97 APIs that
change how agents should write code, and fix link_section validation
on Mach-O.
Rewrite overlapping Microsoft examples, add M- clause locators, and
fix generated-table pipes, changelog trailer, Key Points, and See Also
capitalization so the issue #3 branch matches corpus style.
The earlier refresh classified 1.97 but inherited the existing 1.95 and 1.96 coverage. Audit all three release-note sets, add rule-shaped guidance for the useful language, library, Cargo, and compatibility changes, and execute their behavior in the pinned CI harness.

Merge the existing Rust 1.97 audit branch into the Microsoft and Zero To Production guidance branch. Correct unsafe, async, performance, ownership, FFI, validation, and operational claims; pin CI actions; make the reviewed example baseline exact; and validate current Rust 1.97.1 behavior.
