fix: reliable USB serial connect for large NodeDBs - #1462
Conversation
…0xC3 fromDeviceStream scanned each complete frame's payload for the 0x94 0xC3 header and, when found, discarded the frame as malformed and resumed parsing inside it. Payloads are binary, so valid packets (e.g. NodeInfo public keys) contain those bytes. The parser then read two payload bytes as a length, waited for a frame that never ended, swallowed the rest of the stream (stalling the config handshake) and re-copied the growing buffer on every chunk (freezing the page). Trust the length prefix up to the firmware's 512-byte maximum, skip headers that claim more, and append chunks without spreading into arrays.
… on open Web Serial's default 255-byte read buffer holds one or two NodeInfo frames, so any main-thread work during the NodeDB download stops reads and native-USB boards (ESP32-S3) drop whole frames. Open with a 64 KiB buffer, assert DTR and RTS together and send the four 0x94 wake bytes before the handshake, matching the Android app's serial setup.
…port The handshake idle timer was re-armed by every FromRadio frame, so on a busy mesh live traffic kept a handshake that had lost a frame waiting forever. On a stall it re-sent want_config in the same session, which the Android client removed because it can wedge firmware. Now, as in the Android app: - only handshake frames (my_info, node info, config, module config, channel, metadata, file info, region presets, config complete) re-arm the idle timer, and each stage has a hard cap; - a stall fails the handshake, and a config stage that completes without my_info counts as a stall; - the web app retries by closing and reopening the transport, after 2 s and 4 s, before reporting the error; - a reconnect replaces the registry's client instead of keeping the dead one, so the overlay shows the new session's progress.
With the larger serial read buffer, a single read carries many NodeInfo frames and decodePacket handled them back to back, so the connecting overlay's node counter stayed at 1 until the download finished. Yield one macrotask per ~16 ms of decoding so the counter counts up.

- Around line 375-379: Update the retry flow around teardown and connect so
disconnect(id) or removal invalidates any pending retry, and verify the retry is
still current after the delay before calling connect(id). Clear
handshakeAttempts when the user ends the attempt.
- Line 379: Update the retry flow around connect(id) to preserve and reuse the
cached transport handle for handshake retries instead of relying on rediscovery
or prompting; clean up the cached handle after all retries finish.
- Line 371: Move the assignment to retryHandshakeRef.current out of the hook
body and into a useEffect in the useConnections flow, so only a committed render
updates the retry callback. Use the effect’s dependencies to track connect and
teardown, and clear the ref during cleanup.

- Set the retry callback in an effect instead of during render. - Disconnecting or removing a connection cancels a pending retry, so a closed connection no longer reopens after the backoff delay. - A retry keeps the cached serial port or Bluetooth device, so it does not depend on rediscovering it without a prompt.
