Recurring Reports
Reports that come up again and again, what causes them, and where they were settled. Check here before investigating a new issue.
A symbol fills only the left half of its cell in a terminal. The character is East Asian Wide, so the terminal gives it two columns, but it was drawn 500 units wide. 1.3.4 widened all 20 such characters (#72, #91). See Width policy.
A strange symbol appears at the end of each line in Keynote or TextEdit.
The line feed U+000A was mapped to a DOS style ◙ picture, and these applications draw it.
The control characters U+0001 to U+001F, except U+000D, are unmapped since 1.3.5 (#93; #89
is probably the same).
Ligatures do not appear on a line that contains only Korean and operators.
Engines that shape such a line as one Hangul run switch calt off. The ligatures are
registered under liga as well since 1.3.5 (#73). See
Font file primer.
Bold superscripts and fractions look lighter and smaller than the rest. U+2070 to U+209C and U+2150 to U+215F came from a different drawing and were identical in Regular and Bold. Rebuilt in 1.3.4 (#102).
A one pixel vertical line at the end of rows at 13pt (or another odd size). A column is 0.5 em, so odd sizes give half pixel columns and some editors leave a pixel when rounding. Even sizes avoid it (#82).
fc-list :spacing=mono does not list D2 Coding.
Two advance widths make fontconfig classify it as dual. Use :spacing=dual or select the
font by name (#76).
neovim-qt prints "bad fixed pitch metrics". It compares the average and maximum width, which are 500 and 1000 by design. The font is still used (#77). Italic text is synthesized by the application and leans out of its cell; there is no italic face (#98).
After opening and re-exporting the font in FontForge or FontLab, Notepad shows wide gaps.
The editor recalculates OS/2.xAvgCharWidth. Set it back to 500 (#84).
⇘ and the other diagonal arrows are small.
They fit a half width cell like ↘ (about 434 units square). They are Neutral, so they
cannot be made two columns wide (#79).
The period is misaligned. Its center is 5 units left of the cell middle, well under a tenth of a pixel at normal sizes. No cause found in the font (#95).

Regular
i,і,ѝsit 1 px high at 18 ppem (#107). Missing DELTAP correction at 18 ppem; reproduced with FreeType 2.13.2. The reporter offered a PR. - Spacing in xterm looks wider than in other terminals (#76). Not reproduced yet.

Windows 11 Notepad does not show ligatures (#99). The text in the report has no
Hangul, so it is not certain that the
ligachange covers it. Needs a check on Windows.
These are not bugs. Each needs new glyphs or a change of behaviour that existing users would notice, so they wait for a decision rather than a fix:
- a solid
|as an alternate to the broken bar (#96) - removing the
.=.}.-ligatures or moving them to an optional feature (#97) - a dotted zero as an alternate to the slashed zero (#106)
- an italic (#98) and Arabic (#105)
- whether Nerd Fonts may keep the reserved name in its patched build (#103)
- widening Ambiguous symbols such as
★ ◆ → “ ” …for legacy Korean Windows behaviour (#91); see Width policy for why this was not done
