fix: label migration CODs for operator-controller adoption - #87
The current operator-controller requires apps.kubernetes.io/managed-by: operator-controller before adopting an ownerless ClusterObjectDeployment. Migration previously supplied only owner-kind and owner-name labels, so the ClusterExtension could not adopt its staging COD.
This change adds the required label to the COD itself and updates both the Go API dependency and the COD CI controller pin to bbe43971eadd. Unit and E2E assertions verify that the staging COD is ownerless and labeled, then retains its UID and management label when the ClusterExtension adopts it. Migration specifications and the E2E guide describe the requirement.
Validation:
make migration/test-unit — passed, 65.5% coverage.
make lint — passed.
make migration/test-e2e-cos-supersession — passed against the pinned controller on kind Kubernetes 1.37 (25.7 seconds).
make migration/test-e2e-cod-rollback — passed against the same controller (26.5 seconds), preserving the operator workload.
Both E2E runs collected coverage. The temporary cluster was removed afterward.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Migration
Staged ClusterObjectDeployments now carry the operator-controller managed-by label while remaining ownerless before adoption.
Adoption preserves the deployment’s identity and managed-by label, while adding the controller reference.
Migration validation confirms workloads remain intact through rollback.
Documentation
Updated migration requirements and test guidance to reflect the managed-by label and adoption behavior.
Set apps.kubernetes.io/managed-by=operator-controller on staging CODs so the controller retains rollout status and adopts them when the ClusterExtension is created. Keep the adoption label on the COD itself.
Update the operator-controller API dependency and COD CI pin to bbe43971eadd. Assert the label and original COD identity across handoff, and document the adoption requirement.
Validation: migration unit tests, lint, and covered COD handoff and rollback E2E tests passed on kind Kubernetes 1.37.

The migration adds the operator-controller managed-by label to the staging ClusterObjectDeployment. It updates the controller dependency and CI pin, and adds unit, E2E, and documentation checks for label and COD identity retention during adoption.

The migration adds apps.kubernetes.io/managed-by: operator-controller to the staging COD. The requirements, validation notes, and unit test specify the ownerless staging state and distinguish COD labels from template and workload labels.
