ORDER OF NYX

Civic Bot-Spy · Public Archive · Sub velum noctis, veritas lucet

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
 A public counter-disinformation research archive.

Real identities. Open participation. Public methodology.
Aggregate findings. No covert accounts. No individual targeting.

We watch what is already shown. We say what we have witnessed.
We do not become what we observe.

§ I. WHAT THIS IS

The Order of Nyx is a civic counter-disinformation research collective. Members participate openly — under their own real, verifiable identities — in online communities across the Facebook ecosystem, and document propaganda mechanics, echo-chamber dynamics, and influence-operation patterns at the level of aggregate rhetoric — never named individuals.

The archive is the public face of that work. It contains the Order's mission, its conduct disclosure, its formal epistemic methodology (seven steps, phenomenological in derivation), an academic threat taxonomy adapted from established OSINT and cognitive-security literature, the catalogue of discourse categories under observation, the data ethics framework, and the data sovereignty doctrine governing the archive's own infrastructure.

Findings are aggregated, anonymised, confidence-scored, and released to the public on a rotating schedule under Council of the Night ratification. The archive is the accountability mechanism for the work.

§ II. WHAT THIS IS NOT

NOT a covert intelligence operation
NOT the deployment of fake accounts, sock-puppets, or impersonation
NOT the recording or publication of private data on identifiable persons
NOT manipulation, recruitment, or interference with observed communities
NOT partisan — observation extends across the full ideological spectrum
NOT affiliated with any state, agency, party, or commercial entity

Every line above is an operating commitment, not a marketing claim. The methodology and conduct disclosure (§ 00 of the live archive) are public precisely so that anyone — observed communities included — can hold the Order to its own standards.

§ III. CONDUCT DISCLOSURE

Five commitments, in full force:

I. REAL IDENTITY PARTICIPATION
All members participate under their own verifiable identities.
No fabricated accounts. No pseudonyms for access.

II. OPEN MEMBERSHIP, STANDARD TERMS
Participation under the same TOS as any other member of any
observed community. Present because admitted; departing when
      asked or removed.

III. NO PRIVATE DATA ON IDENTIFIABLE INDIVIDUALS
Analysis at the aggregate level only — narrative patterns,
propaganda typologies, rhetorical mechanics. Never named persons.
      Narrow, ratified, proportionality-reviewed exception for
      verified dangerous perpetrators only.

IV. NO MANIPULATION, RECRUITMENT, OR INTERFERENCE
The Order observes; it does not act upon observed communities.

V. PUBLIC METHODOLOGY, PUBLIC FINDINGS
Methodology and threat taxonomy are public. Findings released
after Council ratification, aggregated and anonymised.

§ IV. EPISTEMIC METHODOLOGY (Summary)

01. EPOCHÉ Suspend judgment before documenting.
02. PROVENANCE Verify source before classifying.
03. FALSIFIABILITY Steelman the counter-hypothesis.
04. CONTEXT Cross-reference; never analyse in isolation.
05. GRADUATED CONFIDENCE Confirmed → Speculative tiering.
06. AFFECT QUARANTINE 24hr hold on emotionally provocative material.
07. PEER REVIEW Two independent reviewers minimum.

Cardinal Rule. The more compelling the narrative, the more rigorous the protocol. Virality is a red flag, not a green light.

Full text and rationale: § 02 of the live archive.

§ V. THREAT TAXONOMY (Summary)

Adapted from Wardle & Derakhshan's information-disorder framework, Pomerantsev's influence-operations typology, and NATO StratCom threat typologies. Tiers assigned by assessed harm potential and operational sophistication of the threat — never of the observed community.

TIER I CRITICAL Coordinated Inauthentic Behaviour (CIB)
                      Malign Foreign Influence Operations
TIER II HIGH Radicalisation Pipeline Architecture
                      Epistemic Corruption & Sensemaking Sabotage
                      Affective Polarisation Amplification
TIER III MODERATE Organic Extremism & Echo-Chamber Entrenchment
                      Criminal Infrastructure Masquerading as Community
TIER IV MONITOR Passive Epistemic Complicity & Strategic Silence

Full descriptors: § 03 of the live archive.

§ VI. DATA ETHICS

Full anonymisation prior to model ingestion.
Identity preserved only for verified dangerous perpetrators
   (Council-ratified, proportionality-reviewed).
Retention window: same-day default, 7 open business days hard ceiling.
Secure destruction with cryptographic overwrite, deletion confirmation,
audit-log entry. No shadow copies. No unmandated handoffs.

§ VIII. PROVENANCE

The Order of Nyx is constituted as a civic research collective devoted to Nyx — primordial goddess of Night, mother of Aether and Hemera — interpreted not as deity-worship but as operational metaphor: the discipline of seeing clearly in the dark that others cannot or will not enter.

The mythological frame is not decoration. It is the governance structure. The Council of the Night ratifies findings. The methodology binds members. The Latin motto, Sub velum noctis, veritas lucet, is the working principle.

The archive itself was built collaboratively between the Order's founding members and Claude, an AI assistant developed by Anthropic. The collaboration is disclosed openly because the same standards of transparency the Order demands of observed communities apply to the Order's own work.

§ XI. ENGAGEMENT

The Order does not solicit membership. It does, however, welcome:

  • Methodological critique. Open an issue. Steelmanning is the protocol.
  • Threat taxonomy refinements. Citations to OSINT / cognitive-security literature welcome.
  • Source corrections. If we have misclassified a public discourse pattern, open an issue with the correction and supporting reference.

What the Order does not entertain:

  • Requests for data on identifiable individuals (we do not hold any).
  • Requests to surveil specific groups outside the published taxonomy.
  • Requests for partisan analysis or political endorsement.
