A restored Query Tool calls focus() on its editor once loaded. It runs in a same-origin iframe, and the browser moves focus into it without firing focusin in the main document, so MUI's focus trap never reacts and the "Unlock Saved Passwords" prompt loses focus (keystrokes then go to the editor). I confirmed that event behaviour in headless Chrome.

  • ModalProvider now has a useKeepFocusInModal hook: whilst a modal is open, a window blur that leaves focus on an iframe outside the dialog returns focus to the element last focused in the dialog (or the dialog itself).
  • Applies to every modal in the main window and to all iframe tools, not just the Query Tool.
  • Jest tests added in regression/javascript/ModalProvider.spec.js.

Closes #9784

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Focus now returns to the open dialog when an outside iframe takes focus, helping keep keyboard navigation within the active modal.
    • If the previously focused dialog element is unavailable, focus moves to the dialog.
    • Focus remains unchanged when no modal is open, when an iframe inside the dialog receives focus, or when the window loses focus without an outside focus transfer.

…he background. pgadmin-org#9784

A restored Query Tool calls focus() on its editor once it has loaded.
Because the tool runs in a same-origin iframe, the browser moves focus
into it without firing focusin in the main document, so MUI's focus
trap never reacts and the master password prompt loses focus, with
keystrokes going to the editor behind it. Whilst a modal is open, take
focus back whenever it lands in an iframe outside the dialog.

Walkthrough

ModalProvider now tracks focus while a modal is open. If window blur leaves focus on an iframe outside a MUI dialog, the hook restores focus to the last eligible target or the top-most dialog. Regression tests cover restoration and cases where focus remains unchanged.

The hook tracks eligible focus targets and checks the active element after window blur. If focus is on an iframe outside a MUI dialog, it restores focus to the last connected, non-body target or the top-most dialog. ModalProvider enables the hook when its modal list is non-empty. Regression tests cover restoration and cases where focus should remain unchanged.
