fix(web): show Setting up during worktree setup - #28832
The sidebar said "Working" while a new worktree was still being set up, then restarted its timer when the agent began. It now says "Setting up" during worktree setup and "Working" when the agent starts. Each label shows the elapsed time for its own phase.
Evidence
Native Linux desktop on corex, Ubuntu 26.04.1 and Electron 44.10.1, with isolated test data. Both recordings use a real worktree checkout held by a post-checkout hook, followed by a free Replay turn through the real orchestration path.
Before, main e68e19d605485db6ef31b2033f67a9d07634fc2b: "Working" during checkout, followed by "Working 0s" when the agent starts.
before-final.mp4
After, head 645a72b7facacadc7df4d9f59f48f7b322cbac7c: "Setting up" during checkout, then "Working" when the agent starts, through completion and idle.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The sidebar now displays “Setting up” during worktree preparation while preserving existing activity indicators and styling. The change is presentation-only and does not alter worktree execution or product defaults.

The sidebar now resolves preparing as its own thread status. Preparing threads use the working folder indicator and working-style row behavior. Their status label is “Setting up.”

Resolve preparing status and folder indicators apps/web/src/components/Sidebar.logic.ts, apps/web/src/components/Sidebar.logic.test.ts
The sidebar status type and resolver now preserve preparing as a distinct status. Preparing threads recede, and folders containing them show the working dot. A test covers the preparing status resolution.

Explanation
All changed code lies in the sidebar scope of #28816. Sidebar.logic.ts adds the preparing status, recede handling, and folder-dot handling. SidebarThreadRow.tsx adds the row label, recede class, and duration display for preparing. Sidebar.logic.test.ts covers the new status. The "Setting up" wording is a label mismatch within the same requested change, not an unrelated change. No files outside the sidebar path changed in the whole-PR diff. Approval priority and the existing working paths were not reduced in the reviewed hunks.

Explanation
The title "fix(web): show Setting up during worktree setup" matches the main change. The sidebar now shows a "Setting up" label for threads in the preparing state, instead of "Working", while a worktree is being set up. The title is specific, uses a conventional commit prefix, and is a single sentence of 7 words.

Explanation
Issue #28816 requires the sidebar row to show "Preparing Ns" while the worktree is created, then "Working Ns" counting from the agent start. The whole-PR diff (base e68e19d to head 645a72b) meets the timer and status part. resolveSidebarThreadStatus maps runtime preparing to preparing, and SidebarThreadRow.tsx shows WorkingDuration for preparing, which counts from requestedAt because startedAt is null during setup. Working still counts from startedAt. The label part does not meet the request. SidebarThreadRow.tsx sets topStatus.label to "Setting up" when status === "preparing", not "Preparing". The PR description and PR objectives both say the sidebar shows "Preparing", so the code and the stated behavior differ. The earlier head 038ee46 used "Preparing"; the change to "Setting up" came later. Test coverage checks only the preparing status value in Sidebar.logic.test.ts. No test checks the row label text.
Resolution
In apps/web/src/components/sidebar/SidebarThreadRow.tsx, change the preparing label from "Setting up" to "Preparing" so the row shows "Preparing Ns" as #28816 requests. Add or update a test that asserts the rendered row label for preparing threads is "Preparing".
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the required template and fills in its main parts. The Problem and Change content appears under "What it fixes", and the Verification content appears under "Evidence", with before and after screenshots and recordings from native Linux desktop. The "Closes #28816" line links the triaged issue. The "Scope and approval" section is missing. The template requires a linked triaged issue or maintainer-approved discussion, and the description links an issue but does not state whether a maintainer triaged or approved the scope. The description also does not state the model and harness used, which the template asks for when an agent did the work. The PR objectives note that the test and check results are reported in comments rather than in the description, and the description itself does not list the focused tests run (for example the 93 sidebar tests). The template requires a verification statement beyond the screenshots, and "Tests pass" alone is insufficient.
Resolution
Add a "Scope and approval" section. State whether a maintainer triaged issue #28816 or approved the direction. Add the focused tests run, such as the Sidebar.logic.test.ts run and its result. Add a statement of the agent model and harness if an agent did the work. Restate any checks that could not be run, such as macOS, Windows, and remote connections.

vp run check:changed 3368dd70f20cb192b68895494a4a73455524fb76 passed through blacksmith: format, lint, both knip passes, affected typechecks, 93 sidebar tests, and compiler coverage. two independent read-only reviews approved this exact head with no findings. no unresolved review threads exist.
four free replay worktree turns completed through the real orchestration path in isolated state. a fresh playwright sidebar assertion timed out, so this run does not claim new visual verification. the prior web evidence below and native linux evidence in the pr body remain the visual verification for the unchanged sidebar diff. native clients and remote connections were not rerun in this pass.
Verified in a real dev environment
verified head 73392f6f0bdceb84bc390d606a4212fd724ce439 on a linux boat vm using repo playwright 1.60.0 and /usr/bin/google-chrome.
reproduced on github/main (e6e2ab05cc) in a separate worktree after vp i: added the real repository through the web app, selected codex gpt-6.1-sol, and submitted a new-worktree turn. the sidebar said "Working" while the timeline showed worktree setup, then restarted its counter when the agent began.
stopped main before starting the exact pr head after vp i, using an isolated .t3 home and a copy of the app-created data. repeated the same prompt and worktree flow. the sidebar showed "Preparing" during setup and "Working" when codex began. the active group and counter remained visible. the real codex turn read t3.json and completed. a follow-up ran git status --short, returned a clean worktree, and the sidebar returned to idle. the proxy retried during the first pr turn and recovered; both pr turns completed.
vp test run apps/web/src/components/Sidebar.logic.test.ts passed all 93 tests through blacksmith, including preparation status, approval priority, receding, and folder indicators. no source changes were needed.
native electron desktop and ios/android clients were not launched. macos/windows behavior, remote/relay/tunnel connections, and providers other than codex were not exercised. approval priority and folder indicators have focused test coverage above, but were not separately exercised in the live app. this is web verification, not native desktop evidence.
The sidebar folded the preparing run status into Working, so a new
worktree thread counted "Working" from the request time and then
dropped back to 0s when the agent started. Give preparing its own
sidebar status labelled "Preparing", with the same timer, receding,
and folder dot as Working. The timer already counts from requestedAt
while preparing and from startedAt once the agent starts.
