fix(web): opening a project or deleting the open thread skips delegated tasks - #30428
When one linked environment delegates a task to another and both are added to one web client, picking the project in the command palette, or deleting the thread you have open, can open that task on its own instead of a thread the sidebar lists. Expected: both picks skip it, as they already skip side chats and subagents.
Change
delegate_task to a linked environment (#16719) creates an ordinary root thread on the other machine, in the project with the same repository. A client that has both environments shows it under its parent, through isShownUnderParent(ref, lineage, delegatedUnderParent), the way it shows a local subagent. #16719 calls this out: the sidebar, its project ordering, mobile's lists and notifications leave the task out.
Two "open the project's latest thread" picks in web do not apply that rule:
Command palette, open project.openProjectFromSearch (grouped and single-project paths) and the existing-folder path of Add project pick from threads. fix(web): opening a project from the command palette no longer lands in a subagent or side chat #29891 made that list skip side chats and subagents with isSidebarHiddenThread, which checks lineage only. The default project grouping, repository, puts the two machines' copies of a repository in one group, and a delegated task's prompt comes after the parent's last message. So right after a delegation the task is the group's newest thread, and Cmd+K on the project opens the task instead of the parent.
Delete fallback.getFallbackThreadIdAfterDelete picks the newest other thread of the deleted thread's project in its environment. On the machine that ran a delegated task, deleting the open thread of that project can land on the task.
Before: both picks can open a delegated task on its own, away from the parent it belongs to. After: both skip it and open the newest listed thread, or start a new thread or go home as before when none is left.
The fix:
The palette now filters threads with isShownUnderParent, the sidebar's own rule, using useDelegatedUnderParent(). That covers side chats, subagents and delegated tasks in one check, replacing the isSidebarHiddenThread filter.
getFallbackThreadIdAfterDelete takes the delegatedUnderParent set and skips the threads in it. useThreadActions reads the set at delete time through a new readDelegatedUnderParent() in state/entities.ts, beside the other read* helpers. The permissions test's mock of that module gains that one reader.
The palette's thread search (buildThreadActionItems) is left as it is on purpose: a search for a task by name should still find it, as #16719 keeps a task's work within reach. Only the "open the project's latest thread" picks change.
Surfaces: every web delete path (sidebar menu, bulk delete, thread header and command palette menus) goes through getFallbackThreadIdAfterDelete, and every palette project pick reads the one threads list. Desktop wraps web. Not affected:
Mobile already reads navigationThreadShellsAtom, which skips these tasks. It has no palette and no delete fallback.
This is a small, focused fix for an obvious bug. #16719 decided that a delegated task shows under its parent and not on its own. #29891 fixed the same palette pick for side chats and subagents, and its one filter missed this case.
This builds on #29891 (merged) and on our open #30370, which makes the delete fallback skip side chats and subagents. The review bot on #30370 raised this case there, and it was kept out of that PR as a separate visibility rule: #30370 (comment). This branch is based on main, not on #30370. The delete fallback adds its check on its own line, so the two merge cleanly in either order (git merge-tree), and with both merged the fallback tests pass. Once both land, the two checks in the fallback together equal isShownUnderParent, and a later change can fold them into that call.
On main with only the test commit (78a07c7), vp test run src/components/Sidebar.logic.test.ts src/components/CommandPalette.browser.test.tsx from apps/web:
× skips a delegated thread parked on its shelf
× opens a searched project's latest listed thread, not a newer subagent or delegated task
AssertionError: expected 'thread-delegated' to be 'thread-visible' // Object.is equality
AssertionError: expected '/local/delegated' to be '/local/parent' // Object.is equality
Tests 2 failed | 92 passed (94)
With the fix, the same files plus src/hooks/useThreadActions.permissions.test.ts: Test Files 3 passed (3), Tests 130 passed (130).
Mutation check: with the palette filter ignoring lineage and checking only the delegation set, the palette test fails with expected '/local/subagent' to be '/local/parent'. Each half of the rule is load-bearing.
With #30370 merged on top (git merge --no-commit, then aborted), the getFallbackThreadIdAfterDelete tests pass: 6 passed.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck (2 packages), tests (12 files) and the React compiler check pass.
Not checked: either pick in a running client. That needs two linked servers, both added to one web client, and a real delegate_task. So there are no before/after screenshots. Click path:
Link environment B to A and add both to one web client, with a project of the same repository on each.
In a thread on A, have the agent delegate_task to B and wait for it to finish.
Press Cmd+K, search the project and pick it. Before, this opens B's task. After, it opens A's parent thread.
Open another thread of that project on B and delete it from the sidebar menu. Before, this can open B's task. After, it opens the next listed thread on B, or home.
The tests drive the palette component and the fallback function with mocked thread lists and a hand-built delegation set. They do not run delegatedUnderParentAtom itself, which #16719's threadShell.test.ts covers. The palette fixture keeps the task in the parent's environment and project; the filter is keyed by thread and does not look at environments, so the cross-environment repository group in the click path takes the same branch.

…ted tasks
The command palette's project pick and the delete fallback should never
open a task a linked environment delegated here while the sidebar shows
it under its parent. Both tests fail on main, which opens the delegated
task because it is the newest thread in the project.
…ed tasks
When a linked environment runs a task for a thread this client lists, the
sidebar shows that task under its parent, not as a row of its own
(isShownUnderParent with the delegatedUnderParent set). Two picks that
open "the project's latest thread" ignored that rule. The command
palette's project pick filtered only side chats and subagents, and the
delete fallback filtered neither. Right after a delegation, the task is
the project's newest thread, because its prompt comes after the parent's
last message, so both picks opened the task on its own.
The palette now filters its threads with isShownUnderParent, the
sidebar's own rule. getFallbackThreadIdAfterDelete takes the
delegatedUnderParent set and skips the tasks in it, and useThreadActions
reads that set from the registry when it deletes.

The command palette and post-deletion fallback selection exclude threads marked as delegated under a parent. A state reader supplies delegated-thread state to the deletion flow. Tests cover both selection paths.
The command palette filters thread shells with isShownUnderParent. The browser test confirms that opening a searched project selects the parent when a delegated thread has a later user-message timestamp.
A state reader supplies delegated-under-parent keys to the fallback selector. The selector excludes matching threads, and tests cover delegated-thread exclusion.

The existing-folder selection branch can regress independently of project search. Add a test that submits an existing folder with an active parent and a newer delegated thread, then asserts navigation to the parent.

@coderabbitai On the existing-folder nitpick: leaving the tests as they are. The fix filters the palette's threads list once, where it's defined, and the project-search path and the existing-folder path both pick a thread from that same filtered list. The project-search test already pins the filter. A second test would run through the same line without covering anything new.

@spoukyii That makes sense. Both paths use the shared filtered list, and the project-search test covers that filter. I won’t ask for a second test.

## Verifying
- Proof for a bug fix depends on the bug. Logic, data, state, and protocol bugs get a failing test first (the fewest that fail on `main` for that reason, in an existing case of the module's test file where one fits), then the fix. Purely visual bugs (spacing, colour, alignment, a layout shift) get before/after captures as their proof and no test: do not add UI tests for nitpicks, and do not ask for one in review when a capture already shows it. A server-only fix with no visible surface ships the test plus a short runtime transcript.

Problem
When one linked environment delegates a task to another and both are added to one web client, picking the project in the command palette, or deleting the thread you have open, can open that task on its own instead of a thread the sidebar lists. Expected: both picks skip it, as they already skip side chats and subagents.
Change
delegate_taskto a linked environment (#16719) creates an ordinary root thread on the other machine, in the project with the same repository. A client that has both environments shows it under its parent, throughisShownUnderParent(ref, lineage, delegatedUnderParent), the way it shows a local subagent. #16719 calls this out: the sidebar, its project ordering, mobile's lists and notifications leave the task out.Two "open the project's latest thread" picks in web do not apply that rule:
openProjectFromSearch(grouped and single-project paths) and the existing-folder path of Add project pick fromthreads. fix(web): opening a project from the command palette no longer lands in a subagent or side chat #29891 made that list skip side chats and subagents withisSidebarHiddenThread, which checks lineage only. The default project grouping, repository, puts the two machines' copies of a repository in one group, and a delegated task's prompt comes after the parent's last message. So right after a delegation the task is the group's newest thread, and Cmd+K on the project opens the task instead of the parent.getFallbackThreadIdAfterDeletepicks the newest other thread of the deleted thread's project in its environment. On the machine that ran a delegated task, deleting the open thread of that project can land on the task. Before: both picks can open a delegated task on its own, away from the parent it belongs to. After: both skip it and open the newest listed thread, or start a new thread or go home as before when none is left.
The fix:
threadswithisShownUnderParent, the sidebar's own rule, usinguseDelegatedUnderParent(). That covers side chats, subagents and delegated tasks in one check, replacing theisSidebarHiddenThreadfilter.getFallbackThreadIdAfterDeletetakes thedelegatedUnderParentset and skips the threads in it.useThreadActionsreads the set at delete time through a newreadDelegatedUnderParent()instate/entities.ts, beside the otherread*helpers. buildThreadActionItems) is left as it is on purpose: a search for a task by name should still find it, as #16719 keeps a task's work within reach. Only the "open the project's latest thread" picks change.Surfaces: every web delete path (sidebar menu, bulk delete, thread header and command palette menus) goes through
