This PR replaces the string/array database API with utopia-php/query value objects. Permissions, relationships and lifecycle events move into hooks. It adds joins, aggregations, a query cache and per-coroutine state. This is utopia-php/database 8.0.0.

What changes

  • Typed surface. Adapters and Database take Attribute, Index, Relationship and Collection models and the ColumnType / IndexType / PermissionType / Method enums instead of strings and arrays. Database::createCollection(Collection $collection) has no string overload.
  • Hooks. Document permissions and relationships are Hook\Permissions and Hook\Relationships, registered with addHook(). on(), before() and the EVENT_* constants are replaced by Hook\Lifecycle and Hook\Transform.
  • Capabilities. The 51 getSupportFor*() methods are replaced by supports(Capability::...) and hasFeature(Feature\...::class). Adapter\SQLite extends Adapter\SQL.
  • Joins and aggregations on MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite:
    • inner, left, right, full outer and cross joins, with the same permission and tenant rules as a direct read;
    • groupBy, having and distinct;
    • statistical and bitwise aggregates;
    • cursor paging over joined rows.
  • Per-coroutine state. Authorization::skip(), silent(), skipRelationships(), withTenant() and the other scoped toggles apply to the calling coroutine and the coroutines it starts, instead of to the whole handle. A coroutine whose starter has already returned is cut off from its ancestor's scopes. Its setters then change only its own state while a scope over that state is open on the handle, so they can no longer leak to every coroutine.
  • Document and query caches are keyed by hostname, database, namespace and tenant, with a per-collection epoch. A query-cache hit costs 3 cache round trips.
  • Transactions.
    • Only the outermost withTransaction() retries, and only failures that can succeed on another attempt (Exception\Contention for deadlocks, lock waits and serialization failures).
    • On MongoDB, a commit with an unknown result is retried on its own, without rerunning the callback. If it still cannot be confirmed, the call throws the new Exception\Unconfirmed.
    • A first commit that the server reports aborted reruns the callback; before this change its writes were silently lost.
    • SQL keeps the 7.x behaviour when the connection is lost during COMMIT: the callback runs again.
  • Dependencies. Requires utopia-php/query 0.6, utopia-php/async 0.2 and utopia-php/mongo ^1.5.4. The last one drops mongodb/mongodb and with it GHSA-65fr-j4p9-vc33.

Upgrading from 7.x

UPGRADE.md lists every change with the 7.x and 8.0 forms side by side. CHANGELOG.md lists everything new and fixed. These are the changes most likely to need work:

Change UPGRADE.md section
Register Hook\Permissions and Hook\Relationships right after creating the Database Register the permission and relationship hooks
Enum cases replace string constants, so $query->getMethod() === 'equal' is now always false. Run PHPStan at level 4 or higher Constants are now enums, Queries
Schema methods take models Schema: typed models
Lifecycle events are hooks. Hook failures follow 7.x event by event Lifecycle events are hooks
Adapter API: capabilities, SQL::getColumnNames() (abstract), InternalCasting::castingAfterDocuments(), removed helpers Adapters
Scopes and tenant are per coroutine. Coroutines cut off from a scope behave differently, and setter pairs must not be used in them. Pool subclasses lose $pinnedAdapter Coroutines
Cache key names changed: do not share a cache between 7.x and 8.0 nodes, and flush it after the last 7.x node stops Caches
Retries, Exception\Contention, Exception\Unconfirmed (MongoDB), the Exception\Unique message, unknown column is NotFound, fractional increase bounds refused Errors, Documents
MongoDB key and unique indexes are rebuilt without the $type partial filter MongoDB: rebuild key and unique indexes
Join limits: index join keys, how one-to-many sorts are bounded, and the MySQL statistics window Joins
Unused public methods removed Removed unused public methods
Serializer::unserialize() no longer decodes closures; use unserializeTrusted() Before you start

Shared tables keep their current model. CHANGELOG lists the fixes that touch it under Fixed:

  • the tenant is per coroutine;
  • schema operations no longer break another tenant using the same collection id;
  • sequences and permission buckets are per tenant.

Behaviour fixes against 7.x worth knowing

  • _metadata invalidation under tenant-per-document. A collection definition could stay cached for the 24 h TTL. This surfaced as Collection not found right after createCollection(). The adapter's tenant is now kept when the document carries none.
  • Statistical aggregates are the population statistic on every adapter. stddev() and variance() emit STDDEV_POP and VAR_POP. stddevSamp() and varSamp() ask for the sample statistic.
  • Joined reads follow direct reads. A joined collection is visible exactly as a direct find() on it would be. Adding a join never changes which main rows are visible. Joins are isolated per tenant under shared tables.
  • Permissions follow every write. Upserts store their permission rows under the tenant, and _metadata reads are permission-filtered as in 7.x.
  • Ambiguous commits on MongoDB no longer store a transaction's writes twice.
  • PHP tracing JIT. Per-document hot paths read typed getters instead of magic properties or property hooks. This avoids a PHP 8.5.10/8.5.11 tracing-JIT crash (Segfault in PHP-FPM with tracing JIT (opcache.jit=1205) due to stale base pointer in rbp (Regression in 8.5.5) php/php-src#22084).

Performance against 7.4.0

Setup:

  • droplet c2-8vcpu-16gb, PHP 8.5.8 + Swoole 6.2.2, opcache on, JIT disabled (the cloud setting);
  • side order alternating per round;
  • MySQL 8.0.41/8.0.43, PostgreSQL 16, MongoDB 8.0.14 and MariaDB 10.11, with dedicated and shared tables.

Rule: operations that scale with data stay within 1.10x of 7.4.0, and single fixed-cost operations within 1.20x. Ratios are head over 7.4.0, so lower is faster.

Engine Median over 148 rows Finds Bulk create/update/delete Relationship find25 count/sum 1k-1M rows (cells over 1.10)
MySQL 0.93 0.83-0.95 0.46-0.74 0.67-0.89 3 of 128, worst 1.17 (storage noise, identical plans)
PostgreSQL 0.89 0.84-0.97 0.35-0.70 0.72-0.86 4 of 128; 2 were a failed bench seed (1.00-1.03 on rerun)
MongoDB 1.02 0.72-0.84 after the batch-casting change 0.56-0.91 0.79-0.88 after the change 0 of 64 after the change
MariaDB 0.96 0.81-0.92 0.42-0.67 0.72-0.85 0 of 96

Other results:

  • Nested relationship creates are 19-25% faster on all four engines.
  • One-to-many left joins read only the page's main rows on MariaDB and MySQL. At 100k rows, MariaDB goes from 470 to 55 ms and MySQL from 1303 to 66 ms.

Above the rules: single fixed-cost calls of 0.5-3 ms, where the absolute gap is 0.1-1 ms:

  • collection.get.miss 1.20-1.31;
  • transaction.update_then_read 1.24-1.45;
  • increase/decrease 1.23-1.29;
  • create.single 1.20-1.22.

Not at parity, by design (documented in UPGRADE Joins):

  • A join on an unindexed attribute can exceed the statement timeout on a large collection on MariaDB and MySQL. Index join keys.

  • On MariaDB and MySQL, these reads sort the whole join before the limit:

    • inner, right and full outer one-to-many joins;
    • filters or searches on a joined attribute;
    • orders that start with a joined attribute.

    A bound for them was built and measured. It made sparse readers up to 80x slower, so it was removed.

  • On MySQL, joins from five tables and outer joins keep the permission check out of the semi-join search (NO_SEMIJOIN). Right after a bulk load, until InnoDB recalculates statistics, such a read can be slow. ANALYZE TABLE closes the window.

The measurements were taken before the last review fixes. Those fixes add a constant per-call check to createDocument() and change nothing else on the measured paths.

Testing

  • CI on 84a40ba42 (Tests 37269698503, CodeQL 37269698582, Linter 37269698446):

    • Tests: 21 jobs, covering unit, 16 adapter lanes (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MongoDB, Memory, Redis, Mirror, Pool, shared tables, schemaless MongoDB) and the Cache 5.x lanes;
    • CodeQL (PHPStan) and Linter.

    All green.

  • Coverage against 7.3.12 (PCOV, unit plus 16 lanes):

    • 96.54% of 27,567 executable lines, against 87.14% for 7.3.12;
    • no line that 7.3.12 covered is uncovered, and 371 more are covered;
    • 26,541 tests (7.3.12: 11,536) and 438,381 assertions (144,068), with 0 failures.
  • Every fix ships with a regression test that fails without it. Tests that had been weakened or moved to stubs run against real engines again. Cache and SQL tests assert behaviour and round-trip counts instead of key or statement text.

  • Reviews:

    • three deep reviews (core, query, adapters);
    • a review of the consolidated branch;
    • an independent review of the 131 commits after it;
    • a review of the final coroutine and commit-retry changes.

    All critical and major findings are fixed, and every review thread is resolved.

Known limitations

UPGRADE.md, Known limitations and Coroutines, covers these:

  • A transaction begun on the adapter directly is not an invalidation scope. Use withTransaction().
  • A coroutine cut off from its scope must use skip(), withStatus(), withRoles(), withTenant() or withSnapshot() rather than pairs of setters.
  • On SQL, a connection lost during COMMIT reruns the callback.
  • On PostgreSQL, planning time grows with each permission-checked join beyond about five.
  • On MariaDB with shared tables, aggregations and distinct follow the engine's index-order plan and can read the whole table.

Chain and release plan

  1. utopia-php/database 8.0.0: merge this PR, tag 8.0.0, publish the GitHub release from CHANGELOG and UPGRADE, and confirm Packagist. Until then, consumers resolve ^8.0 through extra.branch-alias.
  2. utopia-php/migration#222: lock-only re-pin to 8.0.0, merge, tag 3.0.0.
  3. appwrite/appwrite#11649: lock to the tags and merge. Then release usage, audit and abuse from appwrite packages/.
  4. appwrite-labs/cloud#5410: moves off branch pins after appwrite is released.

utopia-php/database#968 (nested relationship queries) overlaps this branch. The agreed order is this PR first, then #968 rebased. The ORM, repository and migration-runner PRs that were once stacked here (#947, #948, #949) are closed.

Cursor queries stop working after toArray() / groupForDatabase() round-trips.

Documents::find() expects $cursor to be a Document so it can read order keys and $collection. toArray() collapses cursor documents to $id, and groupForDatabase() returns that scalar unchanged, so any serialized cursor query will fail when pagination code calls getAttribute() or getCollection() on it.

Keep replacement-style updates for schemaless collections.

This now always wraps the payload in $set. When defined attributes are disabled, missing keys are supposed to disappear on update; with $set they persist forever because the old document is never replaced.

Preserve relationship roots when pruning selected fields.

$attributesToKeep only records the literal selector. A query like select(['author.name']) will therefore remove the populated author attribute itself, and aliased projections are dropped for the same reason. Please retain the root segment of dotted paths, plus any projection alias, before removing attributes.

Based on learnings: Repo utopia-php/database: Relationship selects are always evaluated in the main alias context (no per-collection aliasing). Code Review

Reviewed this PR for CRITICAL/HIGH/MEDIUM findings (bugs and CLAUDE.md compliance).

1 HIGH finding — a permission-check regex regression that was silently reintroduced during the query-lib refactor. Details inline.

Other items considered and cleared:

  • Import ordering in Hook/Relationships.php and ORM/EntityMapper.php — conforms to Pint/PSR-12 case-insensitive ordering.
  • Missing readonly on #[Attribute] mapping classes — AGENTS.md phrases this as a conditional preference ("readonly properties for immutable data"), not a hard rule; not a clear violation.
  • Bug scan across SQL.php, adapter files, traits, hooks, validators, and ORM/ — no high-confidence bugs found in the new code (several initially-suspicious patterns turned out to be pre-existing on main or safely handled).

Code Review

Reviewed this PR for CRITICAL/HIGH/MEDIUM findings (bugs and CLAUDE.md compliance). 1 HIGH finding — a cross-tenant data-leak regression in the newly extracted TenantFilter hook. Details inline.

Other items considered and cleared:

  • Duplicate createIndex calls in SQLite.php:267-268 — no-op because createIndex has an explicit IF NOT EXISTS short-circuit (lines 438-449). Redundant but not a bug; CodeRabbit already flagged as a nit.
  • Mirror::addHook constructing fresh Relationships($this->source/destination) — the new hook is bound to the correct target database; not a clear regression.
  • Missing readonly on new Attribute/Index/Collection/Relationship value objects — AGENTS.md phrases this as a conditional preference ("readonly properties for immutable data"), not an enforced rule; the prior review cycle on this PR already dismissed the analogous ORM case.
  • Snake_case test_* method naming across ~30 new test files — widespread deliberate convention change for the refactor, not a discrete bug.
  • Bug scan across new Hook/**, adapters, traits, and validators — no high-confidence regressions found beyond the one flagged below.

CI healing — run 24884705670

Root-caused two undefined-constant errors introduced by the recent merge from main into feat-query-lib:

1. Unit Tests (3 errors) — Utopia\Database\Query::LOGICAL_TYPES

Query::shape() at src/Database/Query.php:161 references self::LOGICAL_TYPES, but the constant was never declared on the Query class (nor inherited from the base Utopia\Query\Query). This made testShape, testFingerprint, and testFingerprintNestedLogicalQueries all error on the first call into shape().

Fix:

  • Added private const LOGICAL_TYPES = [Method::And, Method::Or, Method::ElemMatch] — matches the logical methods already listed in toArray().
  • Added public const TYPE_ELEM_MATCH = 'elemMatch' (the fingerprint/shape tests construct new Query(Query::TYPE_ELEM_MATCH, ...) and it was also undefined).
  • Fixed $node->method . ':' . ... concatenations — $node->method is a Method enum, not a string; changed to $node->method->value.

2. Adapter Tests / Mirror (1 error) — Utopia\Database\Database::VAR_STRING

tests/e2e/Adapter/MirrorTest.php:330 still used the removed Database::VAR_STRING constant inside a raw new Document([...]) attribute definition. Every other test in this file already uses the new Attribute(key:, type: ColumnType::String, ...) form.

Fix: Converted that one usage to the Attribute(...) form to match the rest of the file.

Verification

  • vendor/bin/paratest --functional --processes 4 /usr/src/code/tests/unit → 1220 tests, 0 errors (was 3 errors).
  • vendor/bin/phpunit --filter 'QueryTest::(testShape|testFingerprint|testFingerprintNestedLogicalQueries)' → 4/4 pass.
  • PHPStan clean on the changed file.

Note on the Mirror test

With the VAR_STRING constant fixed, testCreateDocumentsSkipDuplicatesBackfillsDestination now runs past the attribute definition and exposes a separate, pre-existing issue on this branch: Database::skipDuplicates() does not propagate to the adapter, and SQL::createDocuments() calls $builder->insert() unconditionally instead of $builder->insertOrIgnore() when the flag is set. That's out of scope for a CI-healing fix (the reported error was VAR_STRING, which is resolved), but it's a real skipDuplicates feature gap that will surface once the adapter runs this test end-to-end. Left for a follow-up commit.

CI heal (run 24886550663)

Failure: Tests\E2E\Adapter\MirrorTest::testCreateDocumentsSkipDuplicatesBackfillsDestination

Utopia\Database\Exception\Duplicate: Document already exists
Caused by: PDOException SQLSTATE[23000]: 1062 Duplicate entry 'dup' for key '_uid'
  at src/Database/Adapter/SQL.php:638 (createDocuments)

Root cause: After merging main into feat-query-lib, skipDuplicates support was added to Adapter.php, Mongo.php, SQLite.php, Postgres.php, and Mirror.php, but the shared SQL path in src/Database/Adapter/SQL.php::createDocuments() was left calling $builder->insert() unconditionally. When Mirror::createDocuments() forwarded a batch to destination under skipDuplicates (to backfill rows that source had no-op'd via INSERT IGNORE), the destination ran a plain INSERT and threw 1062 on the pre-seeded row.

Fix: Route through the query builder's insertOrIgnore() when $this->skipDuplicates is true. The utopia-php/query builder already maps this to INSERT IGNORE INTO (MySQL/MariaDB), INSERT OR IGNORE INTO (SQLite), and INSERT … ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING (Postgres), so the single line change covers all SQL adapters.

-            $result = $builder->insert();
+            $result = $this->skipDuplicates ? $builder->insertOrIgnore() : $builder->insert();

Code Review — critical & warning findings fixed

Ran /skills:improve on the query-library core of this PR and resolved 7 CRITICAL / 4 WARNING findings across the recent-delta files. Full diff is large (340 files), so the review was scoped to Query.php, Validator/Query/*, and Validator/Queries.php — the PR's core extraction theme.

Dimension summary

  • Security / correctness: ColumnType::from() \ValueError, Filter switch missing 10 ColumnType cases, Order::addAggregationAliases schema mutation leak across requests, aggregate-method dispatch missing half of Method::isAggregate() (stddevPop, varPop, bitAnd/Or/Xor, …), toArray() crash on non-Query child of And/Or/ElemMatch, pre-existing fatal-on-load from incompatible LOGICAL_TYPES visibility and parse() signature drift with the base library.
  • Performance / maintainability: dead duplicate-schema-lookup block in Filter::isValidAttributeAndValues, nested-recursion over Union/UnionAll that are not filter containers, drift risk between shape() and toArray() using two different literals for the same set.

Test result delta

Before this commit, the branch could not load Utopia\Database\Query (fatal: narrowed visibility on LOGICAL_TYPES; incompatible parse() signature). Fixing those plus the groupForDatabase order-attributes regression dropped unit-test failures from 31 errors + 1 failure → 2 errors + 1 failure. The 3 remaining failures are environmental (PHPUnit Swoole class, xdebug + PHP 8.2 dynamic-property on DateMalformedStringException) and are not caused by this PR.

Not addressed (intentional — out of this cycle's scope)

  • DRY refactor of the 5 near-identical Aggregate/Distinct/GroupBy/Having/Join validator skeletons.
  • Single-pass restructure of Queries::isValid (currently parses strings twice — correctness-neutral).
  • Hoisting the per-value switch-built validator in Filter::isValidAttributeAndValues out of the foreach (performance-only).
  • Cycle-guard / node-count cap on Query::shape() (theoretical DoS — unlikely to be reachable in practice).

These are worth doing but are architectural and carry regression risk for a follow-up PR.

CI heal — follow-up (after local verification)

My first fix touched SQL::createDocuments() but locally the test still failed, surfacing two deeper layers of the same bug in the feat-query-lib merge:

  1. Database::skipDuplicates() never reached the adapter. The method set $this->skipDuplicates = true on the Database instance but Traits/Documents::createDocuments() never propagated that to $this->adapter->skipDuplicates(...). So even with insertOrIgnore() wired up in SQL.php, $this->skipDuplicates on the adapter was false at the moment of insert. Mirrors main's pattern: wrap each batch with $this->adapter->skipDuplicates($insert) when $this->skipDuplicates is set. Also declared the property on Database to avoid dynamic-property fragility.

  2. Permissions hook used plain INSERT. Even after the document INSERT IGNORE was a no-op, Hook/Permissions::afterDocumentCreate ran $permBuilder->insert() against _perms, hitting Duplicate entry 'dup-create-any' for key '_index1' when the destination already had those permissions. Piped a skipDuplicates: bool through WriteContext from SQL::buildWriteContext, and the hook now calls insertOrIgnore() when the context says so.

Local verification: MirrorTest — 653 tests, 10 761 assertions, 0 failures.

Files touched:

  • src/Database/Database.php — declare $skipDuplicates property
  • src/Database/Traits/Documents.php — propagate to adapter in createDocuments()
  • src/Database/Hook/WriteContext.php — add skipDuplicates field
  • src/Database/Adapter/SQL.php — set skipDuplicates in buildWriteContext
  • src/Database/Hook/Permissions.php — honour skipDuplicates in afterDocumentCreate

CI failure — root cause and fix

Failed run: #24887417627

What failed

Every adapter test job errored with:

Error: Undefined constant Utopia\Query\Schema\ColumnType::Serial

originating from src/Database/Validator/Query/Filter.php:174 — the per-value validator switch that the previous review-findings commit extended with ColumnType::Serial, ::BigSerial, and ::SmallSerial cases.

Why

Those three cases were added upstream in utopia-php/query commit d692372 (feat(schema): PostgreSQL SERIAL column types, 2026-04-23). Our composer.lock was still pinned to 3f57d89f (2026-03-26), which predates them. So composer install in CI resolved an older ColumnType enum without Serial, and the switch failed at runtime the first time any test exercised the Filter validator.

Fix

Ran composer update utopia-php/query to roll the pin forward to the current tip of feat-builder (5ca0401), which includes the SERIAL cases. Only composer.lock is changed — no code changes needed. Verified locally that the enum loads all three cases and Filter.php is reachable via autoload.

abnegate and others added 28 commits October 9, 2026 17:09
…oved

updateRelationship() took any column under the new key as proof that an
earlier attempt renamed the relationship. An orphan column under that name
was adopted while the values stayed under the old key, and a rename of the
two-way key alone (new key equal to the old) counted any related-side error
as success because the unchanged key column always exists. Recovery now
requires each column the adapter renames, on the parent, the related table
or the junction, to be present under its new name and absent under its old.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
createCollection() returned true for "Collection Exists" in every mode, so
outside shared tables it adopted an orphan without its indexes, and the
Database could then drop a collection this process never created in its
cleanup. Outside shared tables and the metadata collection an existing
collection is now Exception\Duplicate, as on the SQL adapters, and
createCollectionInSchema() decides. A shared or metadata collection is
still adopted, but its indexes are created again (createIndexes is
idempotent), so a creator whose indexes failed no longer has to drop it:
another tenant may already have adopted it, and the creator only drops a
collection nobody else can adopt.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
dropCreatedCollection() ran outside the caller's session. MongoDB refuses
a drop inside a multi-document transaction, and a drop outside it cannot
see the uncommitted collection, so it either failed or contended with the
transaction's own locks. The failed create aborts the caller's
transaction, which discards the collection, so the drop is skipped there.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The indexes deleteRelationship() removes are dropped silently, but the
restore after a failed drop recreated them through createIndex() with its
events, so listeners saw an index_create with no index_delete before it.
The restore now runs silently, as the junction definition's restore does.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A merge left the tag above createCollectionInSchema() as a second, detached
docblock.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
When createAttributes() falls back to creating the columns one at a time
and a later column is refused or fails, the columns it already created
were left in the schema with no metadata, to be adopted or refused by a
later create. They are now dropped before the failure is rethrown.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…n backing index

Under shared tables renameIndex() reported a rename done when any tenant
of the collection had the index under the old or the new name, so a
tenant whose own index was gone renamed its metadata on the strength of
another tenant's copy. A tenant's index is now its own, or, for a tenant
that has none, the one created with the shared table by the tenant whose
definition was stored first, which is what backs the indexes declared
with the collection for every later tenant.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
delete() refuses a false from the adapter, so the event only fires after a
delete that succeeded and the flag was always true. It is unreleased, so it
goes before 8.0.0 instead of carrying a constant.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…n() keeps

deleteCollection() deletes the collection's relationships before its own
table, so a failure afterwards leaves them deleted while the collection
stays, and a Mirror diverges from its destination until the delete is run
again. Also brings the MongoDB createCollection(), createAttributes()
fallback, updateRelationship() recovery and PostgreSQL shared renameIndex()
entries in line with the fixes before this.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
declaredFilters() passed the stored filters to array_diff() as they were,
so a declaration listing Filter enum cases failed with a string conversion
error instead of being validated. They are read through Filter::names().

PDOStatement::fetchColumn() returns mixed, so the creating tenant is read
as an int or a string explicitly, and the new tests' parameters and
relationship value carry the types PHPStan checks.

getTable() built the quoted name on its own while getTableRaw() went
through qualifyTable(), and PostgreSQL repeated the shortening in
getPhysicalTableName() and qualifyTable(). An adapter overriding
qualifyTable() to store its tables elsewhere then had its raw SQL and its
builders name different tables. getTable() now quotes the parts of
getTableRaw() and is final, and PostgreSQL shortens the name in one place.

…builder

builder() scoped every builder with a Scope\Raw, which reads the table
map, the attribute map and the current tenant, and the adapter's own
statements then threw it away: newBuilder() and the write context
rescoped it, and the capability probes, compileOrder(), fromNone(),
fromTable() and into() statements never bound it. They now take
dialectBuilder(), the unscoped dialect builder a subclass overrides, and
builder() is final: the dialect builder scoped with scope(), still the
only builder an adapter hands out.

A scoped builder bound its scope's hooks to the first collection its
from() named and kept them when from() or fromTable() later named another
table. Scope\Raw fixes the metadata check at bind time, so
builder()->from('_metadata')->from('users') compiled the users read with
the metadata table's NULL-tenant allowance, exposing every tenant's
NULL-tenant rows; the reverse order hid the shared definitions, and
Scope\Filter kept the first collection and alias too. A re-scope after the
bind was half-applied: the table from the new scope, the tenant from the
old. A bound builder now reads its collection only: from() of it again
still works (after reset(), under another alias), while from() of another
collection, fromTable() and scope() throw Exception\Query.

The join methods (and joins given to filter() or queries()) of a bound
builder take collection ids as from() does, resolved by the scope: the
builder builder() hands out maps them to their tables, and the adapter's
own reads keep joining stored names, so their SQL is unchanged.
Database::from() takes the alias the builder's from() documents, and the
QueryBuilder contract returns Builder&Scoping; Database::from() refuses a
builder with no scope, whose from() would read the id as a raw table with
no tenant. BuilderStatementTest now also pins the SQLite and MySQL size
statements' bindings.

…fyTable()

getSQLTableRaw() overrides now go to qualifyTable(), since getTable() and
getTableRaw() are final; the builder override section names
dialectBuilder(); the from() section covers the alias, collection-id
joins and the refusals of a bound builder; and two paragraphs are
rewrapped.

…the fixtures

The tenancy tests joined stored table names after from() named a
collection, and the read-write pool stubs answered builder() with a bare
Builder; both follow the scoped contract now, compiling the same SQL.

Under shared tables a table holds the collection of that id for every
tenant, and another tenant may adopt it between this create making it
and storing its definition. createCollection() dropped it whenever that
definition write failed in a way that cannot have committed, so a write
conflict or a not-writable primary on one tenant's create could drop the
table with every other tenant's documents, on MongoDB and SQL alike. The
table is now left in place under shared tables; the next create of that
id adopts it.

MongoDB's createCollection() also reported a shared or metadata
collection it adopted as created. It now creates the declared indexes
and throws Exception\Duplicate, as the SQL adapters do for an existing
table, so createCollectionInSchema() treats it as one it did not create.
60b4ac3's message said a creator only drops a collection nobody else
can adopt; that held only for the adapter's own index-failure drop, not
for this cleanup, which this commit fixes.

836bb0f reports an adopted shared collection as Exception\Duplicate
after creating its indexes, so the rename test that creates one the
adapter's database already holds expects that instead of true.

…cope

A bound builder mapped collection ids only for joins added through its
own join methods after from(): a join added before from(), or through a
join method a dialect builder adds itself (FullOuterJoins on the test
SQLite builders), kept the raw id. Joins are now mapped in one place,
on a copy of the pending queries at build(), so the order they were
added in and the method that added them no longer matter, and the
written queries keep their ids.

into() and the multi-table writes (updateJoin() and deleteJoin() on
MySQL and MariaDB, updateFrom() and deleteUsing() on PostgreSQL) took
raw names on a bound builder with no tenant condition on the second
table, so an UPDATE … JOIN could copy another tenant's values; they
now throw Exception\Query there, as fromTable() does. from() of the
bound collection under another alias throws too, since Tenant\Raw keeps
the alias it was bound with for outer joins. The scope's per-build
reset is returned by bind() and run by the builder's build() instead of
being registered with beforeBuild(), which reset() clears.

getCollectionCreator() read the creator with fetchColumn(), whose null
for a NULL tenant was taken for no definition at all, so a collection a
tenantless definition created was renamed only from the renaming
tenant's own index. The creator is now read as a row, and a NULL tenant
names its index with an empty tenant, as createIndex() does.

…error

createCollectionIndexes() mapped the server's code 85 (an index under the
same name with other options) to Exception\Duplicate, which
createCollectionInSchema() took for the collection already existing and
rethrew as 'Collection <id> already exists'. An index conflict while
creating a collection's indexes is now Exception\Index.

The MongoDB collections section of UPGRADE still described the adapter's
createCollection() as idempotent; it now matches 60b4ac3 and 836bb0f
and notes the code 86 index-spec conflict a shared collection's tenants
meet when they declare an index under one name with different fields.

The columns createAttributes() drops after a failed one-at-a-time create
go through cleanup(), which logs each drop that fails with Console::error
before cleanupAttributes() collects it, so a column left behind is
reported while the create's own failure reaches the caller.

…lf made

updateRelationship() completed an earlier attempt only when every column
had moved. A rename of two columns (a two-way one-to-one, or a junction's
two keys) that failed after the first left that column under its new
name, so every retry failed on the column that was gone and the
relationship could not be renamed or kept. A retry now renames only the
columns still under their old names, provided every other one is under
its new name alone, and still rethrows when nothing moved or a column is
under both names or neither.

…ment string

MySQL and MariaDB run each statement of a ';'-joined string, but
execute() reports only the first one's error; a later statement's error
waits in its result. The adapter joins statements this way for a
relationship's columns and a collection's permissions table, so a
two-column relationship rename whose second ALTER failed reported
success and stored the new keys over a column that was never renamed.
executeStatement() now reaches every result, so such a failure fails the
call. PostgreSQL already failed the call, and SQLite runs its statements
one by one.

…llections

testQueryTimeout read the 14 MB fixture for each of its twenty documents
and dropped its collection only when the find threw, and both timeout
tests left their collection behind when a write before the timed read
failed, failing the next run's create.

Both test adapters returned an anonymous builder using ScopesCollections,
and PHPStan, analysing the trait in the context of one of them, lost its
typed per-build callbacks. A named FullOuterJoinSQLiteBuilder serves
both, and the import order pint expects is restored in
MongoDatabaseRenameTest.
