ci(java): cap release-validation benchmark at 100 concurrent tasks - #7356
Conversation

Review stateReady for human review. Risk: Low. CI only. If this is wrong, the Java release gate checks a different set of concurrency levels, and no shipped code changes. Open findings: none. Resolved (1)
Backport: Not needed. This changes a CD workflow on main and fixes no library bug. Updated for 81012db at 2026-10-15 19:01 UTC. The bot rewrites this comment on every review. |

- Line 711: Update the `:benchmarks:run` invocation so `--concurrentTasks`
receives `1`, `10`, and `100` together as a single argument, allowing the
application to parse all three concurrency levels.

* ci(python): Pin cibuildwheel below 4.3 in pypi-cd (#7354) cibuildwheel 4.3.0 moved the pp311 target to PyPy 8.0 (pp80), which the manylinux2014 image does not ship, and the rest of the pipeline builds and tests against PyPy 7.3 (pp73). Pin to <4.3 so all three Python packages stay on one PyPy ABI. Summary
Java CD gates Maven publication on
./gradlew :benchmarks:run --minimal, which runs concurrency levels{1, 10, 100, 1000}. The 1,000-task level makes the gate sensitive to runner performance: on the slowmacos-15-intelrunner the 1/1000/100B case throwsTimeoutException: Request timed out(the client's 250 ms request deadline) under load, failing the gate and skipping publication. v2.6.0-rc1's 1,000-task p99 was already 165–216 ms, leaving almost no headroom; the case has flaked on this runner before (2.5.3) and passed on rerun with no changes. This drops the 1,000-task level from the release-validation gate only, keeping install, native-library loading, connectivity, functional commands and bounded concurrency (
1/10/100) as the publication gate. This matches issue #7348's checklist item 1.Issue link

Implementation
One-line change in
.github/workflows/java-cd.yml: thetest-deployment-on-all-architecturesbenchmark invocation gains--concurrentTasks 1 10 100.--minimal(iteration cap) and the concurrency levels are orthogonal inBenchmarkingApp, so an explicit--concurrentTasksoverrides the default sweep without affecting iteration count. This follows the existing per-call override pattern already used bygo-cd.yml(-concurrentTasks 10) andtest-benchmark/action.yml(-tasks 10).Limitations
Narrows the gate rather than isolating the root cause. Checklist items 2–4 of #7348 remain open follow-ups: move the 1,000-task stress run to a dedicated job with controlled resources, and collect JVM GC/thread, CPU and server-latency diagnostics to determine whether the timeout is a regression or runner degradation. A runner defect is not established.
