07-props/starter issue

I've tried to bring up the 07-props/starter directory in my terminal and run npm install, but when I do so, I get a bunch of warnings that things are deprecated, and then I get an error that the maximum call stack size is exceeded. I'm new. Maybe I'm making a mistake, but I have the latest version of node and npm on my computer.

I had the same issue: running npm install would return with several deprecated warnings and the dev server would not start.

Following the steps here to update all the dependencies solved it: https://nodejs.dev/learn/update-all-the-nodejs-dependencies-to-their-latest-version

1. Install npm-check-updates globally (may require sudo access)

sudo npm install -g npm-check-updates

2. Change directory into the starter props project (you will also need to do the "completed" project as well)

cd ../react-book/07-props/starter

3. Run npm check updates: ncu -u For me, this updated the following dependencies:

Using yarn
Upgrading /home/z/code/react-book/07-props/completed/package.json
[====================] 3/3 100%

 react          ^16.5.2  →  ^18.2.0
 react-dom      ^16.5.2  →  ^18.2.0
 react-scripts    2.0.4  →    5.0.1

Run yarn install to install new versions.

4. Run npm install and npm start

The project should run in localhost:3000

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this repository is actively maintained, so this solution might not always work in the future if more dependencies become outdated and unable to upgrade.
