on Sep 24, 2026 Thank you for testing. What Tails version were you using? Did the passphrase-entry window ever appear at all?
There seems to be a recent change in Tails that makes legacy-GTK3 windows not appear.I'm trying to reproduce this now and will update you.
Using a clean install of Tails 7.13. Yes, the window appeared and passphrase for the Persistence folder appeared OK, but following that, a second window appeared asking for re-input of the passphrase. With no field showing, that was as far as I could go. If I cancelled out, the persistence folder was there alright, but no Core installed. If you can't replicate this, let me know and I'll make some screenshots.
The bug is reproduced exactly on Tails 7.13: after successful Persistent Storage creation, CipherStick immediately falls into “No passphrase was entered” instead of showing a usable re-entry field.
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'bails.set_pass'. This is not a GTK3 rendering failure.
Reproduced on Tails 7.13.
The failure is not GTK3 rendering. The exact root cause is a Python-version path mismatch:- Tails 7.13: Python 3.13.5
- Bails installs its Python package under: ~/.local/lib/python3.11/
- python3 -c 'import bails.set_pass' fails with:
- ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'bails.set_pass'
- persistent-setup hides that traceback with 2>/dev/null, so the bootstrap terminal never shows it.
- The script then receives an empty value and displays No passphrase was entered.
So #240 is essentially a recurrence of #103 caused by the hard-coded python3.11 package directory.

I am going to make the passphrase helper Python version-neutral or switch to
gnome-pinentryfor grabbing the passphrase and remove theset_passdialog.Reacted by PolymathBT62 remaining items

A window requests a repeat of passphrase input but there is nowhere to re-enter the passphrase. "Error, Passphrase not entered". Bitcoin Core is not installed.
