Show windows that Chromium pages open and fill in themselves - #974
On Chromium pages, a window that a site opens empty and then fills in itself stayed blank: reveal.js and Google Slides speaker notes, and the Slack huddle window, showed about:blank over an empty page area.
The page opens the window with window.open('') or window.open('about:blank') and writes into it (document.write, or by adding elements). Chromium commits the window's empty document synchronously inside window.open, before Crest adopts the page as a Quick Window, and keeps that document as the window's initial history entry.
EnginePage::AdoptCommittedDocument skipped initial entries, so the platform never heard a commit and kept the page surface hidden. The written content and window.opener were intact the whole time.
Adoption now reveals that document on the page's first show. The core hears no navigation for it, since the window has gone nowhere. A popup that opens a real address is still on its initial navigation when it is adopted, so it behaves as before.
This may also cover #957 if Word for the web opens its download window empty first; if it opens the download address directly, the empty window left behind is a separate gap.
Engine. This changes engine inputs (Overlay/chrome/browser/ui/crest/crest_engine_page.cc). It is part of a stack that ships with one engine, built and published from the top PR.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Chromium windows opened and populated by a website now display their content instead of remaining blank. This also covers newly opened windows, ensuring website content appears as expected.
A page that opens an empty window and writes into it, as presentation
speaker notes and Slack huddles do, left that window blank. The window
commits its empty document before Crest adopts it, and Chromium keeps that
document as the window's initial entry, which adoption skipped, so the
window was never revealed. Adoption now reveals it on first show without
reporting a navigation to the core.

Walkthrough
Chromium document adoption now returns when the controller is on its initial navigation and sets presents_adopted_commit_ before that check. The release notes describe the blank-window fix. The marketing version changes to 0.8.182.
AdoptCommittedDocument sets presents_adopted_commit_ before its initial-navigation check and returns when the controller is on its initial navigation. The release notes describe the fix for site-opened windows that remain blank. The marketing version changes to 0.8.182.

Explanation
Both linked issues are active direct targets. Their coding requirement is that a window that a page opens empty and then fills in must display its content. [#456, #960] The reviewed diff of CrestEngines/Chromium/Overlay/chrome/browser/ui/crest/crest_engine_page.cc changes EnginePage::AdoptCommittedDocument(). When the controller is past its initial navigation and the last committed entry is an initial entry, the function now sets presents_adopted_commit_ = true before it returns. The platform therefore reveals the committed empty document. The core still receives no navigation for it. A popup that is still on its initial navigation returns early, as before. This matches the reveal.js presenter-notes case [#456] and the Slack huddle case [#960], in which the page writes or appends content into an empty window. The author reports isolated validation of these cases, including a real-address popup regression check. That validation is not independently reproduced here. Residual uncertainty: the initial-entry branch does not call StateChanged(). Whether this is sufficient depends on the platform reading the flag at first show, which this review did not confirm. No automated test exists for this path, and the issues do not require one.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The whole-PR changes are the engine adoption fix in crest_engine_page.cc, a patch version bump in Config/Version.xcconfig (0.8.181 to 0.8.182), and one fixed release-note entry in Documentation/ReleaseNotes.json. The engine change is the implementation of the linked issues [#456, #960]. The version bump and release-note entry are release support for a user-visible fix, as the repository contribution rules require. No unrelated behavior change appears in the reviewed diff. The author states that #957 may also be covered. It is not a linked issue for this PR, so it does not affect this assessment. The author also states that space and profile isolation are preserved. This review did not independently verify that statement.

On Chromium pages, a site that asks to share its own tab
(getDisplayMedia with preferCurrentTab) now asks in Crest's sharing
picker over the page, like every other share request on Chromium,
instead of opening Chromium's own "Allow … to see this tab?" dialog in
a window of its own (0.8.183).
- The picker offers that tab, marked This Tab, plus Window or Screen….
Choosing it shares the tab. A Space whose Screen Sharing setting is
Block refuses the request with no picker.
- The picker now stays within the managed capture policy for the page's
origin, as Chrome's own does, for every share request. Before, it only
honoured a policy that blocks capture entirely.
- Offered tabs pass Chromium's includable filter, so a same-origin
policy offers only same-origin tabs.
- A policy that allows tabs at most refuses Window or Screen… with
NotAllowedError instead of opening the system picker.
- A window-only policy, or a page that excludes monitor surfaces,
opens the system picker for windows only.
Part of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with one engine
published from the top PR.
Isolated review builds against a local share page: main opened a
separate window with Chromium's dialog; with this change Crest's picker
shows the page as This Tab and sharing it gives a browser track, and a
plain share request behaves as before. With the profile's capture-policy
prefs set, tab-only refuses Window or Screen…, same-origin leaves out a
localhost tab, window-only opens the system picker without Share Entire
Screen, and no policy is unchanged. Host apply, engine build, version,
public-source, release-note, architecture and license checks and the
script tests pass. CI passes.

On Chromium, Command-C, Command-X, Command-V and the other Edit
shortcuts now work in extension popups and the extension side panel,
where they did nothing though typing and the context menu worked
(0.8.184).
Blink leaves the Mac's editing shortcuts to the menu bar, so a page
hands the keys it didn't use back to the browser. A tab passes them to
the menu bar through CrestBrowserWindow::HandleKeyboardEvent; the
extension popup and side panel returned false and dropped them. They
now go to the menu bar the same way, and Crest's Edit items act on the
first responder, the extension's page.
Part of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with one engine
published from the top PR.
Isolated review builds with an unpacked test extension whose popup
logs keys and paste events: on main Command-A, Command-Z and Command-V
did nothing; with this change Command-A selects all, Command-Z undoes
and Command-V produces a paste event. The side panel uses the same
handler but was not driven live. Host apply, engine build, version,
public-source, release-note, architecture and license checks and the
script tests pass. CI passes.

On Chromium, an extension icon now shows the count of requests its
blocking rules matched, so uBlock Origin Lite's icon shows how many it
blocked (0.8.185).
uBO Lite doesn't set badge text itself; it asks Chromium to show that
count (declarativeNetRequest.setExtensionActionOptions with
displayActionCountAsBadgeText), which Chromium keeps apart from badge
text. Crest read only badge text the extension set
(GetExplicitlySetBadgeText). It now reads what Chrome's toolbar shows
(GetDisplayBadgeText): the tab's own text, else that count, else the
extension's default text. Crest already refreshes actions whenever the
count changes.
Part of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with one engine
published from the top PR.
Isolated review builds with an unpacked test extension that turns on
the count and blocks an image three times on a local page: on main its
tile in Site Controls shows no badge though getMatchedRules reports the
matches; with this change it shows 3. Host apply, engine build,
version, public-source, release-note, architecture and license checks
and the script tests pass. CI passes.

…ac (#978)
On Chromium pages, signing in with a passkey that isn't on this Mac now
offers a phone's QR code or a security key instead of stopping at "No
passkeys available" (0.8.186).
- Crest sends a passkey request to the macOS system sheet first, which
reaches every provider's passkeys on the Mac. Chromium asks that
sheet for this Mac's passkeys only, so with none for the site macOS
ended the request without showing anything, and Chromium went to its
no-passkeys error.
- When the system sheet Crest opened ends with no passkey for the
site, the request now goes on in Chromium's mechanism list, which
offers the phone's QR code and security keys. This applies only when
that list has something other than iCloud Keychain, and the request
stays open meanwhile. A person's own Cancel in the macOS sheet
behaves as before.
- Choosing a passkey from another device in a sign-in field's passkey
suggestions goes straight to that list instead of the macOS sheet,
which can't offer it.
- The engine notes and patch comment, which said the system sheet
offers its own nearby-device, QR and security-key fallbacks, are
corrected.
Part of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with one engine
published from the top PR.
The changed hunks apply without fuzz to the pinned 156 sources and the
engine builds. The positive path was not run: review packages lack the
browser passkey entitlement, so it needs the development build signed
with the production identity. Host apply, engine build, version,
public-source, release-note, architecture and license checks and the
script tests pass. CI passes.

On Chromium pages, sites that check for Touch ID before offering it,
such as Duo, now offer it, as they did in the WebKit engine (0.8.187).
- Those sites call
PublicKeyCredential.isUserVerifyingPlatformAuthenticatorAvailable()
first. Chromium answered from its own Touch ID store, which Crest
doesn't use, so the answer was always false.
- Crest creates and uses passkeys through the macOS system sheet, which
does the Touch ID check itself. The engine now answers true when
iCloud Keychain is available to the browser and this Mac can keep
passkeys. Otherwise it gives no answer of its own and Chromium
decides as before. It never answers false, since that answer also
decides whether create() and get() include the platform transport.
- While an extension proxies passkey requests (webAuthenticationProxy,
as remote desktop tools do during a session), Chromium answers, so
conditional mediation is not reported available only to be refused.
This adapts hcbille's change in #687 to the Chromium 156 engine, with
their diagnosis: the 156 sources changed under that hunk, the delegate
passes on an empty answer instead of false, and the system sheet's own
verification replaces the separate LAContext check.
Part of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with one engine

On Chromium, Chrome Web Store extensions published only to trusted
testers or a Workspace domain now install, where they failed with HTTP
401 (0.8.188).
- Crest downloads the package from Google's update service without
cookies, and the service serves such an item only to an account that
can see it.
- When the service refuses with 401 or 403, the download now asks once
more with the Space's cookies, as Chromium's own extension downloader
does. The first request still carries no cookies, so public items
download as before, and the retry goes only to Google's service over
HTTPS.
- A refusal's body no longer counts toward the download's progress.
This ports rajuGT's change in #778 to the current Web Store install
code.
Part of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with one engine
published from the top PR.
The engine builds with the change, and a public item still installs in
an isolated review build. The retry was not seen to succeed, for want of
a private item to install. Host apply, version, public-source,
release-note, architecture and license checks and the script tests
pass. CI passes.

On Chromium pages, a page no longer stops taking clicks after a drag
until it's reloaded (0.8.189).
- A page ignores all input but scrolling while a drag it began is in
progress, until the browser tells it the drag ended.
- Chromium 156 can leave that drag open. It refuses a native drag
session while another is active or the main run loop is tracking an
event, and returns without ending the page's drag. Its asynchronous
drop hit test defers the drag's end, and its abort paths discard that
deferred end.
- A refused session now ends the page's drag as a cancelled one, so the
page gets its dragend and takes input again.
- An aborted drop also ends the drag as cancelled, so a page never acts
on a move or copy that didn't happen. A successful drop keeps the
system's operation.
This is the top of the engine stack #974 to #984, which ships with
engine chromium-engine-37383aa8c4fed47a, built from this branch.
Isolated review builds, with the real pointer, on a local page with a
reorderable list, links and a cross-site frame. Main's engine didn't
reproduce the stuck page, so the reporters' trigger is still unknown.
With lldb forcing the refusal, the page got dragend and the next click
registered. A drop aborted on a cross-site frame ended with none and
kept the item, where main's engine reported a move. Successful
reorders, link drags into Peek and image links behave as on main. Host
apply, engine build, version, public-source, release-note,
architecture and license checks and the script tests pass. CI passes.
